Map for up to 8 players
Do you have a question on map editing, how use the map manager or want to make your new map public? Post here.

Now I am in a self-conflict with creating a map.
I had a simple idea.
YOU will have to fight for your second dillitium moon, cause it is not only your moon. you start with two normal moons and got your "own" tritanium moon. But at least there are only 4 dillitium moons as an expansion for 8 players.
What I don't know is:
Would it work?
Is something like that wanted in Fleet Ops?
The map you see is just a rough draft to show what I'm talking about. - It is not finished.

depends on the size of the map, but in all likelihood it won't be a very popular map as each base has only one entrance, a natural chokepoint for turrets. also the expansion dilithium moon seems (again, size might change this) pretty close to this chokepoint, so it might be covered by a 2 player turtle manoeuvre. if the size is big enough to prevent turtling, then the map will be just too large.

Well I thought of some nice backdoors, too: Wormholes.
And yes the size of the map matters here.
I had the idea to make the example you see just the middle of the map, and the borders are open space.
I'm still playing around with the idea - who knows what will occur from it...

I woud suggest replacing the asteroids with nebulas ... so you still have a natural entry point into each base but you can also fly through an decloaking ( and maybe damage dealing ) nebula to avoid turrets
all in all i really like the design and the idea behind it

Well - if I remember right nebulae are not wanted in new maps for some reason. (-- I don't know)
If I got the time to do I will create some more examples to show.

large amounts of nebulae can be a bit tough on weaker computers. also try moving a fleet through a damaging nebula. it's like trying to steer a herd of startled cows.

We're not concerned about nebulas causing lag (we hopefully will have that fixed for next release), but most of the current nebulas are not the type of dynamic and fun terrain we'd like to see used in Fleet Operations.
I'm a strong believer that it's possible to create many interesting maps without touching nebulas at all. If you examine other popular RTS games, interactive map objects are quite few in number. Starcraft II for instance has only 4 real types of map objects if I recall correctly: the Xel'Naga Tower, high/low ground, Fog/Trees that block line of sight, and two types of destructible rocks. In the future we will of course add more interesting and cool terrain to Fleet Operations.

So, I made another sketch of my idea.
Now what do you think?

why not just make your map yourself?
All it requires is asteroids, blockers, moons and cameras for start positions and wormholes, you could make that in less than half hour and the guide will tell you how

I want to skip making a map that would not work.
I know how to create a map.

Next version.
Now without ships that go through asteroid walls >_>
Changes:
- moved moons away from the center
- removed the inner tritanium moons and added them at the outer area
- moved starting points away from the center of the map
- added some nebulae for an unknown reason (I just felt like adding some...
)
- the is map 25% smaller now
Note: I'm always open for suggestions!
