Map Objects which are outside my field of view...

Do you have a question on map editing, how use the map manager or want to make your new map public? Post here.

Hi folks, minor issue. I've been placing objects for a new map of mine and I'm usually very careful when setting the depth value, for map objects because of a bug that tends to crop up now and then.

When setting the depth, I ALWAYS make sure to press and hold the Ctrl key before dragging the object up and down the depth axis. Unfortunately, if you press Ctrl even a fraction of a second after clicking, then the object in question flies wildly off course into a new part of the map a trillion gazillion light years away from where it should be.

Now, my question is; Is it possible to delete that object (in this case; a rogue planetoid), even though it is not visible on screen? (it's not a game breaker tbh, but it is annoying)

Here is the stupidity of the map maker. There is a center point of the selection field. And if your cursor is off the center, then that is where it goes. Take a look at this below:

IF Cursor Y Coordinate is > center Y Coordinate; Move up at X speed.

IF Cursor Y Coordinate is < center Y Coordinate; move down at X speed.

IF Cursor Y Coordinate is = center Y Coordinate; enable drag and drop option.

Simply remember this. ;)

Are you trying to raise it up and down on the Y axis?

If so, I just ended up using the actual figures in the extra options when you double click on the object.  That way, after a few tests, you can just set those figures for yourself.
Gotta be careful though as the object will not appear in game if you raise or lower it too far.

Good to know! In addition if you hold CTRL before doing anything, it automatically centre the cursor and enables the drag/drop option, regardless of where the cursor is :).

Yeah, it occurs when moving an object up and down the Y axis. Unfortunately the planetoid has gone outside of my field of view, so it's menu is not accessible!

Is there a way of getting to it that I haven't thought of?

Did you  try tilting the camera and looking for it that way? :D

You can do that?

HOW

Erm ... lol :P

For one you can zoom in ... then I think there is a function to let you pitch the camera a bit ... though I might be mistaken.

If you zoom all the way in so that you're looking horizontally you might be able to back WAAAAY up in your map until you can see it in the distance.  If the object was placed nearer the top of the map you'll have a much better chance at that, I think.  If placed at the bottom ... better call Dawg the Bounty Hunter to get that planet.

Ahh, already tried that :P

Alas, when the Planetoid went to warp 9.2 it also moved from the centre, towards the bottom of the map, so the camera tends to pan under it but not in a way in which I can see it.
