Hi. I've been looking for the file in the fleet operations installation that acts as a source for the name of ships, for the factions. Not having any luck though. Does anybody know the name of the file for the ship names. I'd really like to access it, to add some additional possible ship names
.

sorry to tell you, but i'm reasonably sure that every odf has its own line for that.
the line starts "possiblecraftnames =" then there's a list of, you guessed it, names that ship can have.
each rank gets its own odf, each avatar gets its own odf (if there's an avatar bonus in play), each mode (eg hyper impulse) gets its own odf, each refit gets its own odf. that's a lot of odfs to add names to.
thankfully afaik adding ship names is really as simple as adding names to each list, obeying the rules about quotes and such.
you'll probably have to make some sort of automated solution if you want to do lots of this.
also this thread should go in the modding forum.

No problem, thanks for telling me. I can go into the odf and have a spy of the lists.
. Not so sure about automation, I'd have to have a think about it. May just go into the files and manually add some names e.g. For the Klingons , bonebreaker, bloodtaker, For the federation Aurora, Harabanaro, Blackstar etc

Some addition to this:
1) As the ODFs can use date from their "parent" ODF, you can modify the ODFs so only the parent has the posiblecraftnames part.
2) FleetOps seems to use the possible shipnames a bit differently from Armada II. If you build a ship for the first time in the scenario, it will choose the first name in the list, but then it chooses randomly from the possible names. It can be a very nice feature, if you use registry numbers and you make the experimental registry (NX-XXXXX) in the first position, then your first ship of the class will always be the experimental ship - at least in its name![Smiley :)](/forum/images/smilies/smile.png)

Unfortunately that #2 point isn't actually true though - Armada II and Fleet Ops always randomly choose the ship name, regardless if it is the first ship built or what not.
