Don't know if it fits here, but if not, please remove it to the proper section ;)

I noticed that the ships in fleet ops aren't sized properly. In star trek legacy, i believe you change the size of the ship in the odf files. I have searched for this but i can't find it.

It would make the game a lot more fun if the sizes of the vessels were correct. It is a bit sad to see ships that are ment to be 600 meters and more, that are almost the same size as a ship around 300meters. It gives more dept in the game, and more fun to see your fleet moving. Perhaps for a new patch? If you people are working on it and you want some help with the correct sizes, please, give me a shout!

I think the reason behind this is because this is an RTS and to have canonical sizes would make gameplay a bit hard.

There are other inaccuracies meant to improve gameplay, such as a 300 crew galaxy class. :D

scaleSOD is the odf command to resize the models

Aaaah, dont be ridiculous, you only think they are small because the game is zoomed so far back! :D

Ship sizes in Fleet Ops should be more or less accurate - some ships change sizes quite frequently so a 'balanced' approach was sought in respect to those, which is where some disagreement might come from :) . As Doca pointed at, it of course doesn't stop modifications from being made

Yes, but he said they are too small, the sizes in relation to one another are ok! He just thought the ships are eency weency, propably because you look at them from so far away (most people zoom out to the end) and the old armada has much bigger ones....

That's a really good point  :D

How much is the size really off to it's "original" one? Besides some units that "look" a bit (!) smaller or bigger than supposed to, it seems quite well scaled to me.

Yeah, the only race I can complain about is the dominion.  Their ships are note acurately scaled as far as I know, but thats because a bug ship can not be that small, and a dreadnought.... well, couldn't be that big. :sweatdrop:

I see the point of the way it is at the moment, as some ships would be hard to spot or click on if the scale was 100% accurate, but if someone with the time and skill can make a mod resizing the models so they not exactly canon but a little more "too scale" I would be a very happy bunny :)

Hm, the Dreadnought was stated on screen to be about twice the length of a Galaxy... it's close to twice the length in game (a bit smaller).

This appears to be a fairly accurate scale.  I might be mistaken, but I don't think that the ships in the game are scaled like this.

By the way, the Borg cube is 3,036m across.  Going by the sizes of the Federation ships, and assuming a 1,000m/grid, it seems that the FO cube is scaled to 1,000m.  The Intrepid is about 8.8 times smaller than the 'canon' cube that is 3,036m across.  But when I scaled the cube up, I immediately noticed a problem with the weapons.  The weapon emitters were in a position where the range would be just outside of sensor range.  So the enemy could easily get the cube, but the cube couldn't return fire without a sensor range upgrade.

Only 2 options now.  (1) Increase the sensor range of the super-sized ships, (2) or scale the super-large ships down and the super-small ships up.  I prefer the former for realism, but the later is acceptable for gameplay purposes.

EDIT:
It seems that all Star Trek ships are big and largely waste space on 'headroom' where that extra space could go into an extra deck or two with extra defenses on those extra decks (Borg are the worst).

I've noticed that the Defiant is a lot bigger than it should be, but i have to admit, i have been spoiled by future wars.

I believe the Cubes are meant to be the smaller and weaker Voyager Cubes. The TNG style uber-cube is slated to appear as the Command Cube if I'm not mistaken.

you're not mistaken, i've heard that too.

vgr cubes were more common so they should be the main line cubes. even they are hugely powerful.
