Not sure about Windows 7, but in XP, if you do not enable Explorer showing file extensions then Windows likes to hide them.  If you call a file a.odf in notepad it will happily save it as a.odf.txt because it thinks you don't want to know about the extension.

Go into explorer and turn off this idiotic feature... can't help you with exactly how in Win 7... do a google.

Heh, thanks for that Myles.  I have been wondering about that.  I hadn't taken the time to figure it out, so thanks for making it easy for me. :P

So here is my problem. I am using Windows 7, and I am following the instructions on the notepad.
My first attempt is to add the lines to the first odf file. Sounds simple enough, but unfortunately for me,
windows 7 saves it as a .txt file instead of a .odf file... Any suggestions for my brain dead inabilities?

Do you do 'Save As' instead of Save? If you do regular save it should keep the original extension. As with regards to Saving, if it still doesn't keep the extension. Do File>Save As, then replace in the drop down menu 'Plain Text File (.txt)' with 'All Files' and be sure the odf extension is kept.

If that doesn't work, get Open Office or Notepad++. ;)

It is necessary to know that with Win 7 the original parts of the game engine still have tangles with some copies of Win 7. Some people who even have the same version of Win 7 encounter different problems and scenarios. If you have problems that can't be solved with bug fixing from the devs, then it is likely W7.

Hey guys thanks for the quick feedback. My monkey brain figured it out, it was really a simple problem of not choosing 'Notepad' as the program to open the .odf file. heh  :sweatdrop: It works great! I'm sure I have some kinda error when entering the new data because the game doesn't say... "____ answered your distress call" I don't play competitive multiplayer online, this is pretty much all single-player fun. Keep on modding guys thanks!

I see the problem, I forgot the 'events' file information in the mod. Added a new .rar with the correct entries in.

Notepad is one of the easiest programs to edit odfs with.

yup as tyler said notepad can handle odf perfectly. The issue was with windoze 7 not allowing u to change file extensions.
