After several hours of hard work, i present to you (drumroll please).......
the Kelvin class modded into the game as a federation warpin!
First, my hats off to Beginner for his outstanding modelling/texturing work on the kelvin: if you read this, many thanks!
The kelvin is modded in as a destroyer initially with just a tad more power than a saber, but it *ahem* "upgrades well". It starts with a single Gatling Laser Gun (it fires 5 reddish small pulses at a time). When it hits level 4, instead of giving it Field Command, it gets a Burstfire Photon Torpedo (it fires in bursts of 3). When it hits level 5, it gets Multi Layer Shields. Its veteran ability? i'll leave that for you to find out!
Notes: it takes more damage than it should form torpedo weapons due to the fact that all FO weapons need an entry in their fiels that tells it the exact hitchance against a given vessel. since im not modifying every torpedo weapon in the game, steer this vessel away from any torpedo firing ships/stations! *glares at FO team*
To use, just download the attached file and follow the included install instructions.
this WILL break your multiplayer (for now), so be sure to install a separate copy of FO for this.
Any suggestions are welcome!

I'm impressed! The Kelvin sounds like a fun addition. One question I have is what will this do for multiplayer? Will putting this into my game make it uncompatible for online play? You may want to clarify that for those of us who are dumb with computers. I usually have a backup copy of fleet ops for stuff like this, I guess I'll have to make one again. Sounds like a neat idea! Also, we'd like to see some screenies

Cool thanks! ill make a couple of screenies and post them. I dont know exactly how multiplayer works, but if it only checks files relevant to the gameplay (not Dynamic_Localized_strings.h or events.dat or the sprite files), the mod should work as long as everyone has it. I will also consider adding every neccesary file for those not modding-inclined. Edit: since it doesnt want me to upload more than 2 MB per post, i have to spread these out over a few posts.

Thought i'd let you guys know; i'm working on adding a Miranda class into warpin as well. Before you get excited, its not a TOS or TMP miranda; its a miranda in the style of the Kelvin!

Ugh, please no. Not to say I don't like the ship, but it isn't even close to FO style. Still, Great ship.

Dont worry if you dont want it you dont have to install it. (that is, i think.... i might have to prepare a separate set of files for that )
BTW got a cool tip for all of you who use the random weighting: if you set the random weights to fractional values that add up to 1, the percent chances should be exactly as you specified!

It looks great and if it fit into FO I would use it for sure.
What about a TOS/ST09 minimod for FO? Then all the nice TOS and ST09 ships could be put in, and they would fit. The Klingons and Romulans would be pretty easy to adapt to the TOS time period; a lot of the ships from both groups were around back then.

Nice idea but two problems:
1. FO compatible models are a bit scarce
2. its a LOT of work to add just one ship, and even the simplest at that (warpins dont require avatar differences, buildbuttons, or anything like that)
however i might keep kerchunking a few more ships into FO, maybe some more "modern" ones (like the century or something). I'll take suggestions, just what you suggest has to be an armada model already and releasable without permissions (for confidential reasons)
I'm thinking of adding the the Ronin class to the experimental warpin as a big heavy battleship with some teeth; what do you think?

All A2 (and even A1) models are FO compatible. It's the text files (sprites and odfs) that aren't.

It's not really THAT much work. Once you get into it, and know what you're doing, you can add something new relatively easily. It's not a simple as with stock A2, as you have ranks and things to figure out and balance, but it's not VERY difficult.

Mostly file 'Copy & Paste' with a small amount of text 'Copy & Paste'.
Using the wireframe, I made a build button (just incase I wanted it buildable) and AdmiralsLog image. Which reminds me, if you download this don't copy the wireframe, edit the existing one. The wireframes in the file show up different.

So you're saying drop my wireframe pics into an existing file if possible? i do that already.
I prefer not to hack in sprite stuff as that complicates the installation process, and just makes more work. The main part of the hard work is doing the repetitive calculation and replacement in ordinance to change damage values.

You might, but not everyone will think of it. The black/white part is what's different.
