It's a very good point re: the Akira and Norway. We accept them unquestioningly, yet the Akira was never named as such onscreen. If we're naming the Noxeran/Mogai as "Valdore class", based solely on it being the first of the class we saw, then why don't we rename the Akira as "Thunderchild class"... the USS Thunderchild was the first Akira we saw, I believe. Same with Norway/Budapest class (and Sabre/Yeager class? and Steamrunner/Appalacia class?).

yeah it's well hidden. i couldn't see it on the tv, i only took interest in that display because i thought it was a really stupid set dressing. what is the point of starfleet going to all the trouble of making a giant static display that gives silhouettes of a handful of ship designs. there's no detail to the information and there aren't many classes of ship displayed. also anyone in starfleet should recognise those designs without a silhouette to remind them

nobody is saying that. apparently the valdore type was known as valdore class during production. that's the source, not just because it's the first ship we saw.

Ah, then I stand corrected. Point withdrawn. :-)

Norexan comes from the Star Trek CCG and Mogai I believe comes from the Taking Wing Star Trek: Titan novel.

Neither name is cannon.

Canon. Not Cannon.

Sorry, this is just something that gnaws at me whenever I read it.

I'd still rather it had the name given to the class by the production designer; that's a secondary source, as opposed to the novel / game tertiary sources for the Mogai and Norexan names.
