Romulan Registry Prefix (FO 3.1.5)

posted on March 19th, 2011, 12:04 pm
Gives all Romulan vessels an identification Registry, with 3 different Registries in total; IRW (Imperial Romulan Wabird), PWB (Praetorial Warbird) & RIS (Romulan Imperial Starship).

  • IRW (canon) - Mainstream warships.
  • PWB (canon) - Tavara & Mixed-tech vessels. Large warbirds have a couple sprinkled through their name list.
  • RIS (non-canon) - Civilian and non-combat vessels.

As a small extra, Federation civilian ships (Mediterranean & Mandril Class) also use the civilian 'SS' instead of the military 'USS'.

A Backup is naturally provided, though had to be on a seperate post as the mod and backup combined is too large.

Quite a feat for simple odfs...

Only Federation uses IRW for identification. The Romulans use "Romulan Warbird Terix" or shortly "Warbird Terix".
Technically, Romulans never use prefixes for their warbirds. If they do so, they use ChR. I don't know the porper spelling but the translation is "Romulan Warbird".

By the way, did you know that Romulans use a totally different registry system to the Federation? Feds give an unique number to every ship, that's why the registry numbers are constantly ascending and that's why you can determine the age of a ship from its registry.
Not in the Romulan Starfleet: They use registry numbers as call codes, and so if a ship with a registration number retires/lost/etc. the next ship constructed (regardless of its class) will get the lowest free call code number. Of course, there are exceptions: The flagship for example always gets ChR-1 call code. So Sela's Warbird's proper name is: "ChR-1 Davoress" - at last for the Romulans.

IRW and PWB are canon abbreviations just like IKS, the call codes aren't.

IRW is an abbreviation for 'Imperial Romulan Warbird', which a ship was identified as in Face of The Enemy with the 'Imperial Romulan Warbird Khazara' (identified by Subcommander N'Vek, I think). Not sure how MA knows PWB means 'Praetorial Warbird', though.
