ok so I'm working on getting FO3.2.7 to work proper (and better) on fo4.0 loader with TChapman500 so far ive got the feds compiled along with dds texturing right now the reason im releasing this in this state is to do 1 race at a time and get the bugs squished easier as we'll just be concentrating on finding them for that race to ensure this is tested correctly please install the loader files found here

also install this mod but for best effects please backup and remove the texture folder and ODF.fpq from the main fo data folder

in regards to the poll what im looking for is the communities feel on were we should take FO while its using the A2 engine should we put it back to act as a patch project and put a2 as the core and use FO as a mod or should we keep FO as the core and keep A2 as a mod or do you have another suggestion? Please post the reason for your vote or if your just needing more info first

Keep FO as Core and A2 as a separate mod!!!

- This Encourages mod development starting with base FO
- FO's base files are way better. :)
- Future compatability with NX is likely to be easier building from base FO than from base A2
- In terms of legal problems of redistributing A2, it's better for FO to be the base, than for A2 to be the base

fair enough dont forget to place your vote tho :P

the reason behind putting a2 back as the core is it may help to encourage older a2 modders to come over to fo modding as it keeps to the original a2 gameplay (with minor tweaks) also helps to get older mods to be used again but thats the reasoning for the poll to see how people feel

This sounds interesting. What is your objective? To simply have Fleet Ops 3.2.7 running in the 4.0 loader that the Devs were working on before they moved on to NX?

I'd have FO as the core, simply to make it easier to port 3.2.7 mods to v4.

well 1st off yh get 3.2.7 working (also try and reduce odf count) but once 3.2.7 is up and running in the 4.0 loader then will be looking at improving not too many ideas so far though
Borg
  • Borg XP
  • Better Assimilation

Federation
  • Ship Hull Registries

I think thats it so far we welcome all suggestions though may even look into adding more races but no promises as its just the 2 of us at the moment

So what are the benefits of the 4.0 loader contrasting the 3.2.7 loader? You mentioned hull registries, is that already built into the loader?

The XML techtree is the big feature. It is much better than the old TT format with support for features like 'must not have'. There are a few other goodies, too, like a couple RTS_CFG.h lines that will revert the shields back to the A2 size and color shift system.

More complex techtrees. After we're done converting all the techtree items to the XML format, we're going to create two alternate techtrees: Shared Tech and Alien Tech.

Alien Tech - The techtrees available in Stock STA2.

Shared Tech - Players of the same faction on the same team can build to meet each other's requirements.

the fo4 loader does include the hull registries ability already just need to code into the odf, modify sods and create the registry texture files so its not on the main priority yet, also adds bug fixes that make the a2 import mods work better, changes to fleet caps are now dealt with in the techtree files (main reason we decided to switch to xml in this version) and allows for multiple fleetcap tooltips in each ship, some things work differently now as well meaning it wasnt just a quick copy and paste files (so far its mainly changes to how replace weapons work)

Keep FO as Core and A2 as a separate mod. As for the reason above don't think i need to add more.

I have the feeling that by the time we get done with this mod, NX will be released.
