This is really cool, It kinda combines the flagship and refit ideas. Hopefully veteran Galaxy class' will look like the USS Venture, and the Excelsior will look like the USS Lakota, and be armed with quantum Torpedoes.

Wasnt the USS Lakota an Excelsior II class?

The Lakota was a one-off Excelsior Refit used by Leyton to take over Earth (in a way). It had no similarity to any version of the Excelsior-II, FO or otherwise.

most Veteran Abilities add something new, new torpedoes, slight model changes, a new glow on the engines and similar stuff

Which veteran's actually have model changes, not including the upcoming galaxy?

there will be all kinds of veteran abilities, similar to officer abilities. some increase stats, some add new weapons, modify special weapons or even add new special weapons

Pity AFAIK there aren't any ships which gain new special weapons except the tavara, but they are existing warbird special weapons. any planned change here?

Can't wait for the new patch, posted this here because Optec had relevant posts I wanted to quote.
