i played a couple of games with all factions set to merciless AI, and in every game they seem to get wiped first in every instance, then feds, then klingons, then the dominion, with the borg beeing the last one.
That would likely be a placement sideeffect.
Whoever gets mega-zerged first, dies first.

True, but i just played as borg against a (new) hard ai and i was able to defeat them rather handily. I was attacked by pretty much a steady stream of ships but i held them off with a couple of spheres until i could build cubes to wipe them out. Say that reminds me:
* are the new AI's just renamed or are they tweaked to be harder?
* i found a bug: if you build a collective uplink then select a type of ship to build (this might not be necessary) you can then build anything right on top of it. Seems a bit odd....
* It seems "inefficient" that the borg have so much buffer space around their stations, perhaps that could be reduced to at least give the appearance of a tighter more compact base?

True, but he said merciless, not hard...or is that what you meant? No matter, I think the reason is because the game is much better balanced, and the Races are more useful when you use their special talents.

indeed, the AI needs some tweaks in it's behaviour. If an AI Player wouldn't attack with a steady stream, but group it's attack vessels, it would be far more dangerous. ATM you just put some ships in defense, if they handle the first waves, you're save, because the next ones will be equally big. I played Nirvana against 7 AI Merciless... no Problems, because my defense on the wormhole was strong enough...If they would have waited for some time and mada an attack with two or three waves, they would have wiped me in a second.

Oh! Here is what I was thinking that was a bit similar...
In the map edit there is something that you can put in that when the game starts it forms an Anomaly (More specifically a Temporal Anomaly). What it does is that it basically adds a "Jack-in-the-box" program where random things can occur over periods of time. So here is how it will all go down.
The first event occurs at the beginning of the Game, every hour another event occurs (keeping the game interesting). Here are some possible events that could occur:
- A randomly chosen ship on the map will become instantly derilict
- A construction ship of a random race (NPC only) will apear and become a unit of a randomly selected player
- A temporary wormhole will appear, once it opens and closes for the first time it will disappear (Both ends will be added when it occurs)
- A random ship could become instantly cloned
- A random ship will reach veteran status even if Vet limit was already reached.
- A randomly selected player might instantly gain resorces (5000d, 5000t, 500s)
- A player could be able to build one ship only costing its supply requirement
- A random station could lose half of its health
- A previously eliminated player could jump back into play (that would be so funny )
How about that?

That would be awesome, if you lost then the comp brought you back as the other avatar that you didn't use.

Nice job on the Ambassador, except for one thing. The phaser damage is higher than the other ships such
as the Galaxy Class. Please look at the odf files. Also, some Romulan ships can be upgraded. The same ability should be given to all ships.

thought having the ai using cloak was a good idea, but they still seem to use it to their own disadvantage. For instance, i notice them cloaking a whole fleet and sitting them somewhere in an enemys base (sometimes for the whole duration of the game) while only sending about 3 to 4 ships at a time to attack uncloaked. klingon and romulan ai were a lot harder to play without them using cloak. please fix or remove ai using cloak .
Also, generix support's ability to regenerate other ships shields is a bit overpowered, maybe changing it so it requires more energy per second would balance it. It's easy to destroy a fleet larger than your own without even losing a ship if you have a few of those in your fleet. Love the game, keep the updates comin.

the ai shouldn't use cloak anymore to cloak its fleets since 3.0.6
