Looks like a good cloak detection scheme for the Federation. What do the cloak detection systems for Klingons, Romulans, Dominion, and Borg look like?

We want to promote the idea of a true cat and mouse game between a cloaker and the non-cloaker, where both players should feel comfortable advancing their cloak and counter-cloak technologies.

I fail to see how this game http://www.flasharcade.com/arcade-games ... -game.html relates to fleetops.

Otherwise, this looks very cool.

This sounds like a well thought and fun feature. Good to see that kind of progress.

Borg wouldn't give a crap about cloaked Romulan ships, the Klingons would just broadcast insulting remarks and jokes about Romulans, their mothers and Targs until the Romulans get so pissed off that they decloak and attack them. The Dominion would build a deep space antennae like they had in that one episode that would detect all ships including cloaked ships in an entire sector.

The idea of tachyon pings discouraging raids is interesting. But the fact that researches take so long isn't because it effectively stops you form rebuilding a lost/raided expansion or expanding at all. I would still rather see that at a research station, unless the whole idea is to reduce the necessity of a research station.

Deep Space Scan is a nice addition to cloak detect and I hope all races get something similar.

However, a Tier 0 vessel that'll be, for all intents and purposes, undetectable in the course of normal 1v1 games* will keep the Romulans' dominance in the information and morale warfare department.

Interesting. But I smell abuse of the Plasma Flare special. Always take some Rhienns with your fleet and cloak one after the other. Enough time to have almost half of the fire drained away from your core fleet. The Cloak vs Tachyon Ping upgrades is neat.

Actually, Dominus is not telling the whole truth(as usual) about plasma flares.Plasma flares does reset the target on the stealth rehien but the player can quickly re-target the rhien during their 2 second cloaking time and get maybe 1 more shot off. Also the stealth reheins must be moving in the opposite direction of the enemy fleet for the plasma flares to best be most efficient. If you run toward the enemy fleet then the enemy fleet will lose target of those rheins but re-aquire target to closest enemy ships (aka the rheins that are cloaking). Also another thing to note is that the rhien pulses is still are limited by their arch as they are only forward firing, however they do have a equiped phaser which is 360 and it is this phaser that can be used as a kiting ability.

Important note: Also Ex2 and Monsoon is probably the worst ships to build against the Romulans! :D*unless of course the player is using their special and the EVIL federation synergies... !? D:

Another note for concerned players about expansion being delayed:
The research does not delay expansion unless you research tachyon detection very quickly and exchange ship production for detection. You just need to learn to time the research (which is easy and can be canceled to produce miners) so it does not delay your miners, constructors, scouts, and a suprise.

Are stealth Rhienn's spammable? I can just imagine a Romulan player parking on in a Fed opponent's base and 3+ at each of their expansions, and any time they attempt to research a cloak detect tech upgrade, swoop in and kill a couple of miners, then plasma flare out to confound return fire. I can imagine it being possible to resource-lock a Fed opponent quite hard that way.

even though they are low in tech requirements, i'd presume that they aren't that cheap. also they're probably not as good at fleet combat, as they're designed for stealth.

if the romulan player goes for many early stealth rhienns, fed should just take their fleet and attack romulan mining. either the romulans continue raiding and it's a simple mining trade, or they defend but their fleet has fewer ships, and those ships aren't good at fleet combat.

similar for later in the game, lots of ships designed for stealth will make their main fleet weak.

Good question!

You'll notice that the doctrines are truly the source of a Romulan ship's best use. This doctrine allows a Stealth Rhienn to wait by a minefield for a straggler, pick off a fleeing ship on it's way to repair, or hunt down (you guessed it) lone miners with minimal risk of being detected and destroyed.

An enemy player finding lots of Stealth Rhienns picking on their mining might decide that chasing the Rhienns is pointless and go walking right over to the Romulan base and gobble up THEIR minerz!

Doctrines and synergies and all this stuff sound great! Cant wait to see it in the game!

For the moment however my favorite strategy to use is the "Ray power" avatar which adds 50 to all ships and the passive "unrivaled wisdom" which makes all ships saucer seperatable and doubles their firepower :)

Happy Holidays everyone!

Mhm... it seems every news comes with an increase in difficulty for Feds? Well... I have to see it Ingame to judge it properly...
