See, if they make it so people who had donated BEFORE this announcement got to beta test, then I totally agree with it, because those people have shown real commitment and have done their bit to help the project WITHOUT expecting something in return. THEY are the real supporters of this mod.

Anyone who donates now, just to be a beta tester, is only doing it for themselves, and to be honest it's disgusting =P

And no, I'm not a donator, I'm waiting for the full mod.

i've been a donator for a while now, i haven't done it lately because i'm trying to save up for a Wii, & pay for my dental work at the same time.

You can never know about that for sure. To be honest, the beta test is a true appeal to donate. I'm planning to do so (dunno when exactly as I need my little money for other things atm) and maybe another time when the full mod is out.  And btw, I have been following the mod since the beta 2 was out and atleast tried to support it for over 2 years...

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the full release. :)

Atlantis, its disgusting to you. It isint disgusting. In reality it dosent work as simple as you imagine it.

Does the beta have multiplayer support?

yes, multiplayer is fully working.

Cool then you can own me :D If you want to try that is!

Well, yes. While donating to get one's hands on the beta isn't exactly disgusting, it still is pretty questionable.

Once FO3 has been released, I'll most probably donate a couple of bucks, but I won't do it just to get that beta privilege.

I don't think the Beta is going to last long. People are so crazy about it... they will play the game day and night and report all bugs and imbalance in 3 days ;) After that the devs will fix them in a few weeks or less. Believe me when I say the game already is in a very good shape and almost perfect. It's mainly the balance that needs attention.

So my advice is when you donate don't do it because you want to be a beta tester. Do it because you want to say Thank You to DocaCola, Optec, Detektor and all others that put so much effort into this. They deserve it. I wouldn't give envy any chance here.

Sweet now I know what I want for christmas! hehe

I find it questionable that people who donate can be considered players with good understanding of balance.

So, players, who did not donate are more experienced in balancing or giving feedback?
Fleetops is not a commercial product. When donators are getting the chance to help the staff getting this game done, it's fine for me. I believe we will have a wide variety of players - players with different ways to play the game. That's enough. They are supposed to give some feedback. And the staff will collect the informations. I bet they are sufficiently capable of subsume feedback. ;)

I team up with skitzeh on this one; A beta with it's primary focus (what is the primary focus of this beta?) on balancing should contain the best players the community has to offer; Of course in "our" case this leaves us in a weird situation, cause we don't really have any means to determine who are the "best" players, so I guess that this way is acceptable as well and with the promise of more frequent patches, I could accept that imba-ness might slip through;

There are plenty of great players on this forum, some I assume who have experience of playing RTS in competition.

People who donate to this project are, to my mind, passionate about Star Trek first and foremost. If you allow balance to be influenced by fans of the show upon which the game is based then surely balance will lean towards the Federation, as they always win the wars.. or some other CANON reasoning.

Get Baron to balance it, end of.

Well ok... with my previous statement aside...

I've balance tested a numer of A1 and A2 mods.. I used to test and help on the Naval Armada mod and that was a huge undertaking. I've also done some work on a few others. But I can't donate at the moment so my skills go to waste? meh!

You have no proof for your statements. :) Star Trek fans do not only like the Federation. It is not fair to state they are partial - in some way. You have your opinion. Fine! But if you ask for something, you should have proofed arguments. I don't think your "doubts" are enough. Not for me.

Don't take this personally, please. :)
