You don't need to have gamespy installed to play online; all you need to do is load up FO, click multiplayer, click gamespy (or TCP/IP if you are using Hamachi)... wait a few seconds/minutes ( >:()... and it should put you into a log in screen where you need to create a name. Then click log in, and voila!

the freezing and hangups caused when u click the gamespy button are most likely the same as discussed in this thread.
I also have that problem, for me it almost never works the first attempt, after alt-ctrl-del and shutting fo down, then trying again it usually works.... You may also just need to leave it to load for a few extra mins.

Yes, mine sometimes takes me between 30 seconds and 10 minutes to load up. Ctrl al deleting about twice seems to make it load in a few seconds... usually.  :ermm:

I find that if you have been on the internet no more than 2 minutes ago it usually doesn't take as long. Just a little FYI I observed...

DOnt worry. It takes a while for it to load. For me it allways takes about 2 minutes to sign on, but after that it runs smoothley. Until I restart my computer of course.  :ermm:

Gamespy Arcade does not work for Fleetoperations. However, as already stated, there is the way of using multiplayer directly ingame.
Your problem with freezing is "normal", it also occurs to me. Patience should solve the problem.
You don't need to open ports but your firewall should allow the EXE to access so you can join other games.
However, if you want to host games so others can see your game and join it, then you should open the ports which are a fair bit. Unfortunately you need to open them all.

And here they are:

GameSpy-Ports

80      TCP, Outbound
6500    UDP, Inbound
6667    TCP, Outbound
13139  UDP, Inbound und Outbound
27900  UDP, Inbound und Outbound
28900  TCP, Outbound
29900  TCP, Outbound
29901  TCP, Outbound

Mhh i waited the time and watched in the task manager cpu & network usage are down (nearly zero) and the fleetops task is marked as not responsive. Maybe my System is a little bit AmArsch  :sweatdrop: like we say in good old Germany  :D So onlineFleetops has to wait till i can reimage my Machine....so many stuff to save..

Thx for your tipps
