  Hello all!  ^-^

I've been wanting to make a new multiplayer map lately but I just don't know exactly what I'd like to invest time into.  I thought I'd make a thread here and ask the online community what they'd prefer to see.  A 1v1?  A 2v2?  Would you like me to take a firm hand to Final Frontier II and make it more balanced?

There are lots of options!  :woot:  I just want to know kind of what most players feel is currently lacking.

Regarding:

1v1-
The Pond - I figured I'd change it eventually.  It was a bit of an experiment and since then I've really learned what kind of setups actually critically harm certain races.
Early Bird - A fun experiment as well, the setup just favors certain races a bit too much :(.  I might rotate it to use the corners so an altered setup is possible.  That would (in theory) allow me to avoid splitting up the moons and screwing everyone but Borg/Feds :D.

2v2-
This is No Cave! - No one has really played this one online partly because it's too messy.  It was made a LONG time ago before the post 3.1 changes occurred really so I never gave it too much thought.  I'd still like to do a map that feels like it's "inside" something (like Primi's Mom).  I can always go back and try to redo this one.

3v3-
Final Frontier II - Made in only version before 3.1 came out, I tried to make an unsymmetrical map.  It worked great until the Wormhole problem essentially took it out of play.  Having looked back on it there are a lot of balance problems with it that I never bothered to fix because I felt the Wormhole was an integral part of it.  After seeing Star's "Broken Borders" map I now feel that I could even take out the Wormhole and adjust the starts a bit to make it viable again.  Then I could fix a lot of the balancing problems that exist.

So what do you guys think?  I just added these things here as an example of what can be done with existing maps.  I can always create a new one from scratch if people would rather see that.  If that be the case, by all means please mention what kind of setup you'd like to see!  :).

I'd personally love to see another competitive 2v2 map.  Most games take place on Star Traffic, but I've just never been super fond of the set up for some reason, partly because of how close the central moons are to everything.

I definitely want to see an alternate version of FF 2 (Maybe a FF 3? :D).  FF2 was easily the best 3v3 map, and the wormhole was in a perfect spot.  There were so many possibilities on that map.  Updating it and hopefully having the wormhole issue go away would make it awesome again.

Wormholes no longer cause OOS errors.

I too want to see more 2v2 maps, but I just posted one of my own today.  I vote FF update.

The issue is not fixed.

I would be happy with any map, but an additional 2v2 or 1v1 (in the same vein as The Reef) would be quite nice

i'm gonna vote for a 1v1 as most replays are 1v1.

I really think it's fixed.  Maybe they didn't go after it and solve the problem deliberately, but with the renaming of variables to Armada II originals, I think it's working fine.  I've used wormholes in maybe 5 mp games recently, both on FF2 and testing a new map I'm making, and no oos has occurred.

5 tests isnt a good sample. the problem could still be happening and you just didnt experience it in those 5 games.

The Wormhole OoS problem is NOT fixed.  Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.  Either way it means that I won't be placing them  :crybaby:.

@ Dom:  Yeah I really liked your idea for a 1v1 / 2v2 based on The Reef.  I tried to take some hints from Starcraft 2 and make a map that would be a 2v2 but played as 1v1 if you wanted.  "Trek to Starcraft" was intended to be a test for that.  It's setup is a bit unimaginative, but I was hoping to get feedback on that and adjust it from there.  If you wouldn't mind taking a second look at that and maybe giving me some ideas on how the expansion placement could be altered to make it more interesting I'd love your suggestions again :).  It worked great for Duel II 1.2.

@ Mal:  a 2v2 version of FF2, huh?  :D.  I dig it.  Would prolly have to shrink it a bit or start from scratch with a similar setup.  I think with a little adjustment I could return it to a 2v2 (as that's what it was originally).

Done!

I updated The Final Frontier II to be in line with 3.1.5.

I'll post the full download along with an attempt at the changes in the Map Exchange

I'll start work on a 2v2 that can double as a 1v1.  Hopefully that will satiate everyone's desires :D

Sure, will take a look again :)

I'd like to request another 3player map. Every now and then there are FFAs but imo there are only 2or 3 playable maps(Hazard, Malta, Winds of war), whereas we got really a lot of 1v1/2v2 maps. I don't think we really need another one of those. :whistling:

How about an "odd" player map... (1v2, 2v3, or 3v4) ?

The ones that come immediately to mind (that I like to play off-line) would be:

The Winds of War
The Frozen Depth
Dangerous Games
Chain Way

Haha that's really hard to do ... :)

Generally, in a lopsided match, a rush of the "early tactics" can overwhelm the handicapped side without really much of a contest.  It just sets up the play of the game in a very "un-Flops-like" manner that I don't care for :D.

  We've always still got First Strike for 2 v 3's :D

I would wish me some more great 1v1 maps like your Duel map. Maybe you can even reuse duel make here and there some changes just put the starting points to the left and right or in the corners on each map end to give the player a feeling of something new.

2v2 maps would be also a nice thing of course. Star traffic is fantastic but after playing it the x20 time it becomes a bit boring.
