Im having problems hosting online games. I can join other people games but when I create a game no one can see or join the game. Ive had a look at the help section and it mentions something about opening ports. Can someone tell me in very simple terms on how to open ports on Windows Vista please?

It would most likely depend on the brand and model of your router. Try out this place and simply look up your router and select the game you wish to forward ports for (in this case Star Trek Armada II obviously).
If this is not the problem or you don't have a router it could be your firewall. Make sure the game has permission to send and receive over a network by adding it to your Firewall Exceptions List. If you use Windows Firewall you should find all the info on that here.
If you are not using Windows Firewall (ie, you have it disabled) and are using another one instead (ie Norton Firewall, ZoneAlarm etc) you will have to look up on the website for whichever firewall your using for instructions as they all differ slightly. If you are using a non-windows firewall, it is a good idea to make sure that Windows Firewall is turned off as from what I understand it is best to only be using one at a time.
Another possibly helpful link
Someone else here should know more if these suggestions don't help.

The router suggestion I cant do as for some strange reason it wont let me access the routers settings (instead of loading the router settings it just says windows cant display this page). Router im using is Cable and Wireless model no HSADSLR15CW3, there is a guide but I cant follow it because of the thing above.
I do use windows firewall but star trek armada 2 fleet ops is in the exceptions list.
I do use AVG Anti Virus free version but I dont think it has a exceptions list for programs.
I dont know what to do to solve this problem. I can join other peoples games but I cant host games
Anyone got any other suggestions?
Edit - Managed to get into my routers settings and ive added the ports from the portforward guide so hopefully it has fixed the problem, ill find out tomorrow.
