Hey everyone.
I just wanted to ask about a little idea of mine.
Is it in any way possible to let the website show how many players there are currently on Tunngle?
And if it's possible, which players?
Maybe a seperate page for it, stating how many there are with a list of who are on?

So what do you guys think of this? Is this even possible with the Tunngle api?

its on the main page, it says how many players are on tunngle. so to answer your question its possible cos it already exists :)

having websites show the names of players on tunngle could have privacy issues, i think its best to give a raw count.

I always thought that counter was pretty cool. It would be pretty sweet to find out how it actually works :D

Uhm, isn't that counter actually about how many members are logged in on the website/forums?

never mind. I just saw it. It's not very eye catching in my opinion. I missed it almost everytime.
Can't the tunngle counter be situated just under the website's counter?
That would be better in my humble opinion

Oh sweet. I'm going to guess the counter on the site has some call to LoadNetUser() to get the number of users on the Tunngle network. Beyond that I'm not suite sure, but it all looks useful.  :D

Edit: Looking at the source for the counter there is some JavaScript, and it uses JSON. I have a very vague understanding but I honestly don't have a clue what is actually happening.

Edit2: Forget the striked out section.

we will have a more prominent spot for the player count in the new page design. puh, so many todos open at once! :sweatdrop:

What I find really interesting is that the C++ example downloadable from the Tunngle API page seems to be related to Fleet Operations.

Could this mean integrated Tunngle chat into FleetOps at some future point?
As far as I can tell it would already (potentially, probably more depending on Armada 2 than the Tunngle API) be possible to show the players present in the Tunngle lobby in the FleetOps lobby window.
However, I guess this could well cause confusion where FleetOps player names do not match with Tunngle usernames.

Meanwhile, after some looking at the Tunngle site, I have come to a better understanding of the counter. Basically, Tunngle have a list of virtual networks with current user counts that can be accessed a couple of different ways. One of these is JSON which is used by the FleetOps page to find right network and display the number of users. :D

I would love to get the raw code of the counter to put on MSFC for members who play FO over there but don't normally visit this site regulary.
