New Forum Tab: Questions

Post here comments, questions about the board or the site. Found bugs? What you like, what you don't like.

Have you ever considered implementing a Questions tab in the forums? As generally I tend to be very inquisitive, and I know when I first started out I was very curious. Of course Questions don't really fit into any current tab...

Just an idea

What do you mean exactly? Do you mean a place where you ask the Devs questions... or...?

Well, like there is the tab 'Ideas and feature requests' I'd like a tab named 'Questions'. This is where you basically could ask anything rlated to the game, e.g what are ODF's or how fast is the Rhienn? etc

Doesn't the 'General' and main 'Modding' folder work for that already?

Yeah, I think that fits the bill quite nicely to be honest. :)

To an extent, it does.

But I think a dedicated section would help newcomers. Don't you remember when you first joined and didn't have a clue?

People could post questions on anything related, and the nice community could reply. Eventually, we will build up an archive of questions to which anyone can access.

Maybe just a new member board, where new players can create topics and us established players can reply and encourage them.

I think a new member board is a good idea.

To be honest, although I know that the Devs would be able to move questions that do not belong in such a board to other more relevant ones, it seems like it will be quickly overwhelmed as this is basically a FAQ's type board (which is partially addressed in both the FAQ's of Fleet Ops, and those in the guides). Then again, could prove useful - but what would be included and excluded from this board?

For instance

These types of questions can be answered in the modding section, general section (and a lot others), or the guide.

Unleash Mayhem's "new members board" seems most appropriate (where people introduce themselves) but given how close knit we already are and the turnover rate... that wouldn't be geared very well to the question idea as was stated before - or would it (I don't know, I think we need to clarify the parameters a bit more, as right now the General Board features a lot of these sorts of queries, and might just be better off being split, rather than an entire new board).

On another board I've been on, although it had many many more members, there was a "newbie" board which had the description "New to the game and have some questions you're ashamed to ask anywhere else? Or are you new to the community and just want to get to know everyone? This is the right place for you!"

That's pretty much what I was thinking along the lines of.

I like the new member board idea.  It would give people a place to start and might entice them to sign up.  There are many people who read these forums, but don't sign up for a long time.  Maybe it would help them.  I also think we should add a "This horse has been beaten to death" subforum.  That way, we can move all the galaxy and sovereign class threads into one place, and then people can add theirs to the pile.

A 'FO Indoctrination' section might be useful.

Grouping certain threads like that may sound good in theory, but do you have a few years to spare?

Well, I was being more sarcastic than anything.  But the threads I'm talking about usually make it to 20 pages or more.  They're not hard to find.
