Beer!!

I'll quote some posts and lets continue from there.
Just keep in mind that Germany isn't the only country with a history in brewing beer. I would like to propose we ban any mention of "American beers"
You should try "Bockbier" - this is a special german beer with double original wort and about 9% - 10% alc.
Those little demons taste great and you will be satisfied after 4 or 5 of them. In late summer it is "Bockzeit" in germany, so if you want to pay a visit here, take a Bockbier with you ;D
... we should open a thread about german beer.
I know Bockbier. It's well known in the Netherlands as well. One of my favorites for that is Jopen 4 Granen Bok | Jopen Bier
If you like bockbier i strongly recommend you try this.

Okay, to my favorites:
Here in germany I've tasted a lot of different beers, and here is a little summary of them:
"Bockbier" or "Doppelbock"
- Freibeuter (Pirate)
9,0% alc. and you dont taste the alc. in it. Thats good, because alc itself wont bring a lot of taste, its the mixture. So, when you like a very aromatic beer with a lot of taste, take the "Freibeuter".
Be aware that it is strong - some like it, some not. I like it.

"Becks" and "Jever"
Its the std.-beer here in northern germany. Or Jever. Those two are the classic "pils"-beer and taste quite good.
I dont like pils-beer that much, because it will taste good only after you have had the first or second, but those are good from the start.
White-beer - "Hefeweizen"
This beer is an invention of the bavarians and it includes besides water, barley, hop and malt also wheat and barm. This gives the beer quite a sweet taste and makes it more "thick". It tastes good from the start. In berlin, the capital of germany, there is quite a misdeed going around: Mixing white beer with "sweets" for example woodruff. It might be nice for girls or similar people, but it is a sin to mix a good beer with sherbet.
A good white beer is "Franziskaner".
Czech-beer:
German beer is not the only good beer. The Czech are also very good if not even better in brewing beer. I cant give a real favorite there, because I only had two kinds of czech beer - but they are good. ;-)

im from bavaria and can tell you: the more intelligent bavarians know that good beer does not only come from germany. Tested alot stuff, and some of it was quite good, even though i dont remember the names.
the not so intelligent bavarians still think they make the only good beer ... wonder when this will stop

To name a few, Belgium and the Netherlands (alright, a bit of bias here).
There are run of the mill type of beers like Heineken, Amstel and Jupiler and there are some exceptional brews.

some run of mill beers are quite good. (just because a beer was brewed in Netherlands or Germany doesn't necessarily make it good )
Im personally a fan of windhoek lager, windhoek Draught and bavaria draught.
my day is never complete without a ice cold brew down the hatch.
