Everytime i Defragment my disk drive my hardive seems like i

why is it thta when i defragment my disk drive the computer tells me i have more GB on the hard rive after than it had on it before?

Are you sure you arent also performing some sort of disk clean-up as well? If you are using a third party utility this may be the case.

Also when a drive is optimized the Swap file can be manipulated as well, sometimes this will result in more freed up hard disk space.

In either event probably normal. But the task of optimizing the current file structure is not the same as deleting or cleaning up your hard disk, those two operations are different. But they can occur concurrently if it's the case I indicated above where you have a utility that is deleting files AND re-organizing the file structure.

Hey quadd thank you for your advice. Iam a big fan of defrag. I did put back the video card and it took care of the problem.

I'm also a fan of defrags... I can't stop watching those colored lines rearrange... :thumbsup: I know I'm a freak...

I know, I love them too, especially the Win 98 style with the large blocks, that was great to watch. But they've gotten rid of all the little colors now :crybaby: At least Windows 7 put status messages back in.

haha, I remember watching the colored blocks re-arrange and hoping to never see those red 'B' that stood for bad block... or wait... that was scandisk  :lol:

I also reameamber those huge blocks, use to think watching them boy this windows millineium sure does move.
