That's happened to a few of my friends in the past on MSN/Windows Live Messenger.  If the message or link don't look like what the person would normally send you, don't click the link :)

Change your password and you will be fine.  Once inside your account it auto logs in on it's own.  Change your password and they cannot get in, or at least should not be able to.

Microsoft Security Essentials cleans it out - even though I didn't think I got it from you, I did - and it just got trashed by MSE  :D

Switch your anti-virus to Norton. Full, pure protection. Never had any viruses deem sucessful yet. :D

you cant be serious gamer, norton is the worst antivirus, its expensive, slow, consumes system resources like om nom nom, has low detection rates, and gives you no control, doing what it wants.

mcafee is better, but not by much

kaspersky i've heard good things about

avg free used to be good, but then it started taking up more and more system resources with each new version.

i use eset's NOD32, its really good, its cheaper, takes up very little system resources, has high detection rates, and you can wrestle control from it if you're dedicated.

a couple of weeks ago I would have argued with you, but it seems that norton has really gone slack. my  McAfee actually caught some adware, that nortion didn't, aswell as a Trojan on someone else's computer i know of.

but a spam link usually has to do with your browser.  if it was an internet link, your browser should have caught it.  if it is just an MSN spam, then I really don'y know what to tell you

mcafee has highger detection rates than norton, it can heal files as well, without deleting. but its slow as molasses

avira i have also heard good things about.

about these links, no antivirus will stop the links themselves, nor will any harm come to your computer from receiving the links. its only if you click on them that trouble begins, then any antivirus should stop them if you have active protection (where your antivirus solution scans everything)

Norton and McAffee are both garbage in my book.  Kapersky is good but I use Comodo.  It has 0 overhead and the firewall has never failed me once.  Best of all, unlike Norton especially, it does not consume system resources like a hog.
