So I was woundering what people thought would last longer. I know that every one here at leasts likes Star Trek but I was curious as what you think the public likes better.

I say star wars, but its conditional.  It depends on weather Lucas destroys the franchise, and how good the next few ST movies are.  As cyrax says SW appeals to more people than ST I think, but Lucas is kinda self destructive.

The thing is, Star Wars has a broader appeal but its universe has run out.  I don't see how they could make any more movies that would be popular, and while the Old Republic MMO will certainly help, it kind of feels like a last hurrah.

Not to mention, if you know anything about the expanded SW universe, they tried to introduce a zerg-like enemy that's immune to the force and sweeping across the galaxy... it's absolutely terrible writing.  Now that the SW timeline's future is basically dead, the only direction they can go is backward in time.

Of course, that's also true of the Trek universe.  With the "warp drive is bad for the environment" twist, the future isn't so bright there either.  So to keep going, they decided to split into an alternate universe  :sweatdrop:

It's just a good thing these producers have no shame.  If they did, they'd realize what they're doing and probably let both series' die.  And then we'd have no new ST or SW material to complain about how it's different from the original.

take into account that there is a live action star wars tv show planned as well as star wars is going to theaters .......again lol along with the cartoon clown wars that little kids like. and star trek has ....... no tv of any kind planned and some action movies on the way....that are more about the action then the franchise. :crybaby:

If Star Trek does a remake of Voyager that doesn't nerf the Borg so much and gives the queen a less active role as leader and more active role as representative, maybe it could go on a bit longer.  That tactical cube would destroy Voyager in 30 seconds without outside help.

I despise star wars though.

They won't remake a series, unfortunately. Besides too many people like Voyager a lot.

Btw the whole point of Voyagers angled nacelles in warp flight was supposed to be non harmful, as was the Sovereign class. can't remember where I heard that though.

Probably backstage information or a tech manual, I think I've heard of one of those describing their purpose.

I'd belive it's StarWars. Of course that depends on what further developement the two worlds undergo. Marketing, further fims, games, books and so on will decide that question. But in general I would reason my answer with the different genres of these universes. Star Trek is a Soft SciFi Story, thus the ficition in it is more important than an ethical message (thats not the truth for DS9, which is one of the most interesting political and ethical series I ever encountered, which may also be the reason why the quotes were not that high, and thus play no major role). Star Wars on the other hand is only incidentally a SciFi and phantasy story. It is rather a modern tale that just uses a weired surrounding mor transporting a mesage about good and evil. Grimms tales, which are equally basic have survived fo quite a long time now.

I have to say I think TNG does well at conveying the ethics too, but not quite as much as DS9, otherwise I completely agree with you.

Star trek is older and will be around for a long time yet + the story line can change fast to fit cerent coacher.

Star Wars is over and likly will not come back, the story line is constrictive and not opened to unexpected evens, sith VS jeti.

I sooo want to see Yetis with lightsabers now.

I think it mostly depends on who gets the most attention in the next few years - SW through the series they're supposedly creating, ST through the next movie or, if jj convinces the st guys, a jjtrek series. Let's see which of these become reality.

Star Wars has plenty of room in the storyline, if you take into account that movie canon trumps book canon, they could easily adapt the post Episode VI novels into a very long franchise (those novels cover a timespan going to 138 years after the Battle of Yavin.)
Also, it's possible Lucas might want to redo the prequels one day, if he can get his act together he could make Star Wars even more massive than it already is.

Well as long as it is not a other Highlander.
