They found a planet!

Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

Habitable Planet?

I know it's a long shot, but it's still pretty damn cool.

Avatar part 2 : Take off and nuke the site from orbit

Obviously what happened after everyone left at the end of the film.

Its a circling red dwarf (cue music: it's cold outside, theres no kinda atmosphere...).  I'm no exobiologist but I think Red Dwarfs are not prime candidates for having life on orbiting planets.... but hey, i know nothing about it so its probably just yellow star bias on my part.  :D

Still, the more planets there are the better chances of finding life.

It is actually a perfect temperature as it is 10times closer to its sun, the only problem is that it is locked, like our moon, so one face is always towards the sun and the other is away.

Oh, and it would take us a really long time to get there too...

The twilight region where the light and dark sides meet is supposed to be pretty comfortable, say between 60°F and 70°F (15.6°C and 21.1°C).

Least "earth-like" 'earth-like' planet.  Ever.

It's the most Earth-like planet that we've actually found. You can't expect everything to be a Trek style M-Class planet.

well from its description about its location sounds more ideal than earth but then they start saying its a lot closer to the sun than we are and that its orbit is locked so one side lways faces the sun makes it  bif iffy

I heard about this on my lunch break i was listening to the online radio on my phone and had the howard stern show on and he said something about this planet they found, his source said the planets temp ranged from -10c to 10c, so its more than suitable for human life.... this is whats the big deal about this thing, love the way he put it tho....

"how the f**k do they find these f**king planets its like 10trillion lightyears away for f**ks sake"
