Here is the design that they choose to put into STO(and beyond). Its disapointing for sure.

Yeah, like I said at msfc, I can't really tell what it is by the angle, but I sure don't like the deflector.

The way it connects the Saucer and Stardrive is weird... it works a lot better on the Oberth and D'deridex.

It looks like they tried to merge the D and E together into some inbred crossover of the two.

Attitude of STO:
"And to make sure, history wants to boldly forget the name.... Enterprise!"
Awful looking thing, the Borg can have it.

wow cryptic arent happy with just designing shitty ships, they have to select shitty ones in competitions too. they cant really have such bad taste, i think they are just trolling everyone
looks like it copied a bit from the century class too. (which i will still prefer to be the ent F over anything in sto or jj trek)
i like the third place entry, it reflects a transition to the ent J design.

Well this was posted by their main modeler.
As a reminder - please keep your posts civil and abide by forum rules.
We recognize that everyone is going to have "their favorite ship". Even amongst the judges, there was not a clear unanimous winner at the start.
What we liked most about the winning design is that it managed to inspire a lot more discussion amongst our judges, sto team members, and cryptic artists - more than any of the other designs. The design manages to keep the recognizable silhouette of the Enterprise cruiser while adding something entirely new to the ship line (something that each enterprise has done).
There were many many submissions for ships that slightly tweaked existing designs, but this boldly went in a very distinct direction while maintaining the sideways recognition of the Enterprise.
It actually inspired several of our internal concept artists to draw various concepts and models of how they would interpret the sketch. We got really excited when we saw the direction you could take this design and after iterating with CBS on how this could be the next Enterprise, we all landed in agreement that this ship is going to rock. Everyone associated with bringing this ship into the game is very excited to be working on this ship and I can't wait to show you how it looks fully rendered in 3D with every detail fleshed out and all the functional issues addressed.
The fact that the winning ship was such an inspiration to the team is a testimony to the power of the submitted sketch. We understand not everyone may feel the same way and there were certainly many other awesome ship submissions that for one reason or another did not make it into the finals (whether it be prize eligibility, plagerism concerns, or structural issues, or just the fact that it didn't have the proper number of nacelles for an enterprise). We are definitely going to investigate using some if not many of the other ship submissions as potential new ship designs in the game in the future, so even if your ship didn't make it into the final 25, there were many ships that made our design team drool and we'd be honored to get the ships in game someday.
So while I can't stop the internet from debating Star Trek, I can give my insider opinion and say that I'm very comfortable with the winning design and I think the final ship render that we are designing with CBS is going to knock your socks off.

Good lord that looks like crap; they all do. :(
The only one there that looks somewhat acceptable is the one by runner up C. Madden. It has a bit of the old TMP era style to it. The only objection to that one I have are the nacelles, which are just a bit over done.
Agreed.
Eh? The only thing that really resembles the Century is the deflector region which, to me, has more of a Galaxy feel to it. Maybe the back part of the Engineering section, but that looks more Sovereign to me.
Here here!
Wow. If their main modeler thinks that the winner some how captures the design sprit of the Enterprise, what is this world coming to? "Boldly going in a distinct direction" is right.

i'll highlight part of that post that most shows the lack of taste/intelligence/awesomeness in that cryptic guy:
now he wants to protect canon designs? usually cryptic does awful things when creating twisted versions of canon designs. NOW he wants to preserve stuff. and he picks such a stupid characteristic to preserve, the number of nacelles. just cos all the others had 2 doesnt mean that a new one cant have 4. picard loved the stargazer, maybe he helped design the F in retirement and gave it 4 nacelles.
these people at cryptic dont deserve respect, their work clearly shows they are talentless. RAWRARAWARAWR
and CBS has got another thing coming if they think i will accept this design as canon unless they make it part of a new trek film, in which case i will do what i always do, what ma does, consider new trek as a separate canon where stuff is only valid among itself.
thats what i was talking about, the deflector and the back. cant see the top in the sketch.
or just the fact that it didn't have the proper number of nacelles for an enterprise

Well the Century itself looks to be heavily inspired from the Sovereign. (Actually it kind of looks like DJ just squished the Sovereign and an Intrepid around untill it looked good. ) So I suppose you could interpret it either way.

Interesting that the winning designer has been in the entertainment biz for 15 years.

I designed a really crappy ship.. look for it in the gallery: uss boom boom

I just noticed how there's a "Mark as offensive" button in the gallery. I felt really tempted to go through and click that for all of them.
