During fights, officers and other personel have only their uniforms. without only protection against phaser fire. It would be strange that they have phasers but nothing to an officer from phaser fire.

I wouldn't be a ground troup between a phaser fire fight in the Star trek, it's just a matter of how many men you trow in a battle with phasers

The only real protection against Phaser fire is energy shields, and I don't think most alpha quadrant races use or even have personal energy sheields so the only other choice is to carry alot of firepower and try not to get into a conflict.

actualy u thunk they could come up with a personal shield for ppl
would be so cool,u get hit 15 times and sields at 75 percent and yer still advancing lke the borg :assimilate:

They have them for engineering teams (to go into dangerous areas and fix stuff), so why shouldn't they have them for security teams?

well they should have shield because why would someone make a gun but not something to protect it from. it's like the first knight without his armor

well actually.. the first knight were wearin stuff to protect themselves... remember the samurai.. and i still got some things in mind like bulletproofvests... a shield would be something to think about... but i think the producers never thought of such things... or it would be too much against the TOS series, like the thing that they didnt land on planets but beamin, just bcause of the high prices for animations... i dont know...

At least Elite Force and Elite Force II know personal shields. ;) As do the Borg. :D

Also, I think we never saw true ground forces in ST except the few Marines in Enterprise (though I haven't seen the Episodes yet... damn Sat.1! ;)).

Mostly it was usual Starfleet personnel engaged in fights. Another possibility could be that usual armor wouldn't be effective against phasers and things alike. So, why waste energy for it.

Another thing is perhaps that Star Trek was originally meant to be rather "pacifistic", so why should Starfleet personnel look so martial?

Well, one of the many riddles Roddenberry left us...

lol i am good at those questions without an aswer... lol

but you are right at one thing, Roddenberry made stratrek pascifistic or atleast the federation.

It's stupid, they should just have lil sheild genoraters around thier waists. It wouldn't be as noticable as a phaser in it's holster or a rifle in thier hand.

You never see them with that technology tho, I never said that they did have it and i've never seen anything in the movies or show. Why didn't they shield that ground vehicle in Nemesis that Picard rode in?

Starfleet engineers, they make good stuff but they gotta shield everything.
