I'm not expecting a response from the Fleet Ops devs; this is just an advisory to any member of the community who may be looking at lower-cost alternatives to Fraps.

Steam just released liteCam at an introductory 50% off, so I bought it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to work with Fleet Ops. It doesn't bring up the in-game overlay, and it doesn't respond to hot-keys.

I tried enabling DirectX 9, but Fleet Ops throws an exception when the two are running together.

Looking at the log file, it seems that it's unable to hook into the game. I'll submit it to the developer of liteCam and see what they suggest, if anything.

An update to this: the liteCam developers recently released an update. While it still doesn't hook into Fleet Ops when running the default DX8 renderer, setting

Code: Select all
D3D9=True

in FOData.ini allows it to work.

I've run across other issues when trying to record some software (see what happens to one of my FTL recordings at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZSZM35 ... 03&index=3 at around the 9 minute mark), so I'm still leery about recommending.

Slightly unrelated question, but is there a benefit to running fleetops in DX9 over the normal? Or is it sort of a debug setting?

Judging by this FAQ answer on the Guide, the D3D9 renderer was experimental. Cursors are different, and there's a warning that you may get lower FPS than with the default D3D8 renderer.

The only reason I tried it is because liteCam is able to capture other DX9 games I have this machine, so I thought I'd try the D3D9 renderer.

I successfully captured one of my Fed vs Rom AI bashes using it, though I won't upload it to YouTube as I doubt anyone will want to watch it.
