Here is a small oddity: During the fight mentioned in my icon against the Roms, I sent in a cloaked Defiant (Yes, I did capture one of their ships! ) to spy and watch Tavara's being built while assessing their attack forces strength so that I could retaliate with ships from an absolutely HUGE Mining/construction base packed into 3 moon groups. Instead, the vessels aren't build, and I search the map with other cloaked Defiants. Only the Tavara currently existed, so I sent them home. Then, a total of 1 minute after I sent my Defiants home, a huge attack force came! All in 1 minute!

It's a barstard isn't it. I myself have fallen victim to this phenomenon.
There I was, building with Starfeet, yet matched against the Dominion, AI Hard. They had control of a few moons, and were building a few bug ships at most. How did I know this? Because I had the fog and shroud of war turned off, that's why.
Of course, I was quite smug at this point, because I had a vast fleet of Federation starships crewed with Starfeet's finest, not to mention several extremely intimidating mining and construction complexes like to the ones you speak of. I was literally minutes away from giving them a tast of Uncle Sam when a MASSIVE dominion fleet headed towards every base I had.
Now in fairness, I lasted for about fifteen minutes against this onslaught. It's surprising how twenty pulsed phaser platforms surrounding your primary headquarters can slow things down a bit. But it was more like being eaten to death slowly by army ants than anything resembling honourable combat. In fact, my pride has been dented somewhat. I'm not sure I'll ever completely recover.

Weird... did you review the logs at all to see when things were built (or appeared out of thin air)?

Yeah, I did. According to the logs, all of the Battleships were built on the same Stardate. This especially sucks when fighting the borg.

In fact, EVERY SHIP USED AGAINST ME IN THE MENTIONED FIGHT WAS ON THE SAME STARDATE!

That's just weird. Ghost ships. Or maybe one ship spawned all the others, like Agent Smiths.

Well, the AI's mining is just for show, so that may be a problem.

What do you mean?

I mean that it constantly gains resources if it has 1 mining station! Haven't you noticed that after a while every freighter that they have mines from the same moon?! By the time it would take a human player o run out of resources, they've got around 100 BB's!
