Ok, I've noticed something odd about the FO AI and I'm not sure whether to call this a bug or just an AI glitch. It seems that every time I've played against the AI with fog and shroud on, he was a lot more aggressive than when playing with the 2 on off. This happens even on normal setting. Is this intentional?

parlty. The ai has to scout too, unlike in most other rts games, where the ai gets full sight of view.
Therefore the ai has to guess most of the time where to assault or where a player might be. If fog of war is off, the ai always has accurate data and evaluates possible unguarded targets easier.
Same would affect a real human player, in my opinion
Qapla!

i think firewarrior just told us its the other way round. actually i also have noticed that, not sure why this happens. definitively not intentional by us as most of the ai code is unmodified

I noticed that too. With everything on, the AI seems to concentrate in the first opponent it finds and launches against it everything, including the kitchen sink. It also opens fire on everything that comes into weapons range and it's hostile.
When everything is off, it behaves more meekly... or may be undecided on who to attack...

I personally think that what ever they do it probably has a problem... I mean, one time I was playing as Feds and I was basically right next to a merciless Borg. They didn't even touch me until everyone else was gone...
About half of my games I find my self having to defend both my self and my allies because of them being the only thing standing between the enemy and me... which after a while gets pretty hard.

I feel sometimes that possibly the AI learns of your base's location when you first attack them. Then you're stuck defending yourself from a small but constant flow of ships, and just whil you think you're holding them off they suddenly pull out a monster of a fleet which totally wipes you out.
They vengefully attack the first player that they encounter, to the exclusion of all others even if the others are right in the way.
One thing I've noticed is that if you send in a scout, it gets damaged and you set it to repair, the AI follows you back, making you both the first player it deems hostile and the first player who's base it can see.
This is because ships set to follow or attack will continue to tail enemy ships even when hidden from view by shroud or fog.
