I've noticed that when playing with the AI as an ally, they seem to be much less effective than as an enemy. For instance, when playing with a Hard Federation ally, it never got around to building anything from Eraudi yards, but will happily pound away with Sovereigns and the like when I'm playing against them. Anybody else noticed similar behaviour?

I've been getting this ever since I first started playing A2 years ago. It isn't as bad in FO as it is in stock, though.

Anyone know why this is the case though? I noticed it myself a few nights ago playing with a hard Federation Ally. Just basic yards. Also the SOB came over to my base and started mining MY moons slowing my production down. I had to invest in more stations near his moons to compensate.

That´s why i always steal my allies moons first, hehe.

I can onlyconfirm this problem too, allies suck. Although i have to say, in my last game my borg ally stole my game, he survived waves of klingon ships with my help only to spam the map with cubes. I was lucky i found some leftover enemies to blow up.

Dang darth, that is exactly what I was gonna say. I can give no reason for the problem my self, because as tyler said, it is a stock issue too. Same as Darthashur, I can only confirm that it sucks. ![Drop :sweatdrop:](/forum/images/smilies/sweatdrop.gif)

I seem to recall in previous versions that if you had cloaked ships inside an enemy AI's base (ie if you could see what they were doing) that they wouldn't spam so intensely - could be that since you can always see what your allies are doing, that it's the same thing?

Why can't we have equal AI for both opponents and allies? ??? After all, I find things interesting when I can watch AI maul each other again and again for hours while I just build defense and ward of enemies from finding my base. In fact, we could also make AI Merciless more agressive to fit its title.

it has something to do with the maps. i dont know why but some maps make allied ai wimpy, while on other maps i can barely keep up with the ai and end up playing second fiddle while they clean the map up. ![Smiley :)](/forum/images/smilies/smile.png)

If you want weird ai behavior a lot (ally or not) try nirvana 2, it always surprises me, maybe it has something to do with the wormholes all around. On one ocasion, all other ai players met in my base to fight it out, it was horrible, as if all ships built were sent to me. >:(
