Borg explosions + AA = LAG!

Exploding Borg ships & stations + having anti-aliasing enabled causes HEAVY lag, at least online.

Reducing the amount of debris might fix the issue.

Dunno about over net play, but in instant action I have 4x AA and it never lagged a bit. But over net, it could be possible :)

it could be that this lag only occours one time during a game as the files for the explosion have to load first

Nope, it was at every single explosion like that - and I got a kickass computer.

hm okay. a new more realistic explosion system is on todo eitehr way so that problem should fix itself

as a fix for now.. just make sure your borg vessels don't explode!  :whistling:

Ok I have noticed that this issue exists with any explosion (not only Borg), but it doesn't happen always.

Yeah it doesnt occur everytime, and depending what is exploding you sometimes loose track of the lag because of the screen shake.

At least for me the Lag is Purely Graphical, so it shouldnt interfere too much.

No lag here and I'm playing with 2x AA. Everything works fine.
Strange thing then.

Well, repeating here but its fairly "rare" and only really occurs for me on large stations or larger borg vessels. Its not really a problem in the sense that it doesnt bother me, though its probably just a graphical issue on certain cards that people may have to live with.

Remember, I'm talking about online matches...

And im not :P.

As said, it may be a issue with certain graphics cards, so you may have to live with it and just tell people of the issue beforehand.

I just played via lan and sometimes a borg ship explodes the fps goes down from 60 to 10 or lower :(.

Maybe ATI cards can not handle it...

For my card, Anti-aliasing is an automatic thing, so I'm not affected by it.  :guns: :2guns: :guns: :2guns: :2guns: :assimilate:

I don't mind the occasional fps drop in instant action but online multi really needs to be optimised even at the expense of certain effects or features if need be, multi is pretty important to me as im sure it is for many, i reckon most could live with any changes for better game play and to keep sync.
