iv been having major lag with cloaked vessels, if i have a large fleet of say 20-30 ships and i cloak them, then move them i experience major lag. (its not a hardware problem coz i have a 8800gts, quad core CPU and 2GB ram).
does anyone know how to fix this or is it something to be fixed in the next patch?

yes ive got the same problem. the only thing i can think of fixing it is to not cloak the ships.. for now.

This is the same issue involved in explosions - simply the ancient renderer of A2. A fix is in progress ![Smiley :)](/forum/images/smilies/smile.png)

I noticed this the other day, and I do wonder if it is just a simple as a rendering issue or if it's something more. It seems to differ with ship type.
For example, I played Romulans and had 9 of those artillery ships that fire off charges that detonate with area effect. I cloaked all of them, and there was no framerate issue. However, I had a small group of fighters, no more than 6 vessels and whenever they cloaked, the framerate dropped like a stone. Doesn't seem to make sense considering that they are smaller vessels and fewer of them?
Similarly, I have a 512MB 8800GT, 2GB of RAM and a dual core CPU and I've never noticed this cloaking framerate issue before.

Dom, this is the internet generation. If you want people to actually read your response, you have to make it flashy, like this. ![Cheesy :D](/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.png)

i played klingons a week ago on briar patch map, had 4 fleets of ships, cloaked and heading to an enemy base, right on the spot the frames dropped from the usual 120 to 15. take the shader rander upto 4.0 instead of 2.0! ![LOL ](/forum/images/smilies/laugh.gif)

Yes, but you neglected to read where I said [move]"I haven't encountered this framerate issue before".[/move] I had read your post D_N, I don't care for people assuming that I haven't and then shrugging off something I've taken the time to say.
If it's just a renderer issue stemming from it being old, then would it not have manifest in every version of FO I've played? If anything, work has been done to improve the efficiency of the rendering engine, not stifle it? It also doesn't help explain at all why a group of 9 ships doesn't present the issue, when a group of 6 ships does. 9 ships with the cloak transparency shader or whatever it is, presents more to render than 6 does. I don't have to be a compute or code analyst to know that.
But fine, if it is just a simple issue, then hopefully it gets fixed. I certainly won't be adding any further insight into the matter if it turns out it's not.

The changes the devs make to improve how the engine operates do not affect all systems equally (though they do extensive tests to try and ensure that). For instance, I used to not experience lag due to Borg explosions in 3.0.5 and below, and then I did for seemingly no reason.
Nonetheless, the reason is still the same - the renderer. Even despite the illogical aspect of it affecting 6 versus 9 vessels, it might be due to many other aspects that are associated with the renderer. Perhaps there are some explosions going on, perhaps more textures being loaded on screen, perhaps more asteroids in the field.
Still, the fundamental issue remains that the lag from cloak and explosions is caused by the renderer
. It's by no means a simple issue however (not trying to sound belittling here) and thus the devs have been trying to solve it for quite some time. I'm sure progress is being made, as already they solved some major issues associated with it that were quite visible (or invisible shall we say) in 3.0.0 -->3.1.1 ![Azn ^-^](/forum/images/smilies/happy.png)
The reason I acted hasty in the beginning is because this topic has been brought up several dozen times - it does not mean I am brushing you off however and we all value your (and anyone else's) contributions![Smiley :)](/forum/images/smilies/smile.png)
EDIT: and we are all guilty of misinterpretation too![Cheesy :D](/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.png)

i dont experience any issues with ships, but the romulan turrets halve my framerate when cloaked lol.

Yep. Sorry for being "snarky".
Just think of FO like one big game of wack-a-mole. They might fix an issue, but new changes can cause old issues or new issues to arise.

Affecting 6 ships and not 9 could be the smaller ships having a higher poly count. The Serkas never seemed quite as high poly as the rest of the fleet to me.

that same thought occured to me cabal, the more poly the more it will slow down performance like shadow renders.
syph how can anyone get an idea of something unless someone mentions the same problem that they also have it, im not playing ignorant, im saying that if one person has an no one else says anything, will it make any difference to their judgement? not likely. so i said it as well to back your statement up not to dismiss it
