This is a weird one...

I fire up the game and in full screen mode its entirely black. Everything's there and works, its just blacked out. I alt-tab out and it goes into windowed mode but without the window and everything shows up just fine. I put it in windowed mode and it went into windowed mode properly. I pulled it out of windowed mode and it went to full screen mode, but it blacked out again.

Thoughts?

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate x64.

GPU: 8800GT, latest Drives (whatever the numbers are, I downloaded them yesterday)
processor: AMD Athlon 6000+ Windsor

Interesting Addendum:

The credits display in full screen mode fine.

hm.. make sure your card is set to performance, not to quality, in the drivers menu. there could be an issue with the quality-settings like AA/AF and the like

PS: same for ingame video options ^^ turn off AA, that might fix it.

yh for some rfeason full screen dose not like AA but minimizing then going back on it apparently sorts it

After playing a couple of games last night its apparently just the menus that have a problem. once you get into the actual game, everything displays perfect.

I have a problem related to this...my game starts and the main menu appears, but the options are shifted to the right. In the Graphics settings menu, the back button fails to appear. Any ideas?

The AA is to blame, disable it and it'll work fine :)

No, the AA is not the problem. The actual game part, where AA applies, displays fine, its the menu to get to the game that doesn't. Its not insurmountable, since if you alt-tab out it goes to windowed mode and displays properly but its still an error of some nature that it couldn't hurt to address.

And yes, for the sake of thoroughness, I did disable AA and try it to no avail.

Strangely enough, I had the exact same error u have now but when I disabled the AA it worked fine and so I have had no problems from there on :)

Thats why I suggested it :P , maybe u have other problems so good luck with that :D

I tried alt-tab while in menu, but nothing happened, do I need to be in game?

I'm running the comp in my sig and aside from the lack of saving and such, the game looks, runs, feels and essentially is great.

I have the same kinda issue, the alt tab trick saved me i didnt know about it.
Its only the menu, and the Admirals log.  game is AWESOME (first time playing, wish i had my disk during bata). its not the AA as i dont have it on, im wondering if its a resolution setting thing.
