Hey all, i found this last night and it looks great! Downloaded and installed everything i need to, but then when i go to run it, after a few seconds i get this bug report. Checked Dxdiag and it's all working, i'm not too good at the technical stuff, i just want to blow shit up! Would be grateful if someone could tell me what's going on.

I'm afraid we'll need more than that. If you can save the crash report and post (preferably attach) it here that will be a good start.

Won't let me attach a .txt file but here it is.

Please try to delete your configuration file

You can find your configuration file under XP
C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations\FOData.ini
or Vista/7
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations\FOData.ini

note that these folders may be hidden in the default configuration of Windows.

An alternative way to reach this file:
Open the Run dialog (i.e. by pressing the Win + R keys on your keyboard simultaneously)
Copy&Paste the following:
Code: Select all
%APPDATA%\Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations

Click "OK"

Hope that helps!

Done, still getting the same error :(
posted on November 14th, 2012, 9:28 am
hm, the issue is graphics related. For some reason armada crashes during initialization of the direct3d interface stuff. I assume you have all the latest drivers installed.
Just for the record:
You are using an external monitor attached to your netbook? What is the native resolution of your netbooks internal screen? Just wondering if it could be related somehow.

edit: the reason could be that your graphics card drivers is not offering 800x600 as resolution. this is an requirement of the outdated armada engine.
posted on November 14th, 2012, 9:45 am
Just checked on the intel website, graphics drivers are current. I am using an external monitor since the actual monitor is broken, how do i find the native resolution?
posted on November 14th, 2012, 9:49 am
Also, armada 1 works fine, but i just tried 2 and it gave me this error.

Graphics initialization failed. No compatible direct3d8 hardware accelerator detected.
posted on November 14th, 2012, 10:12 am
yes, this error is typical for when this resolution is unavailable on your graphics driver. The error is the same on FO, however due to some changed code it just crashes at that point.
Anyway, you might be able to fix this issue by adding a custom resolution to your monitor profile.
There are several tools that allow this.
The only tool i am currently aware of which should work for your graphics card is PowerStrip. I haven't used that for years, so it might not be the state of the art solution. See this short tutorial: http://www.techbirdy.com/2010/12/31/how ... owerstrip/

You then need to add 800x600 as available resolution.
To run stock Armada 2, 640x480 might be required as well. But since Armada 1 runs just fine for you (which requires 640x480 to work), this might not be necessary.

Ok, i've downloaded powerstrip, done what it's said in that guide up until it says to click "advanced timing options" which i can't because it's not clickable. Is there something i'm missing here?
