Hi,

First off, I just got Linux this morning, so I'm not that good with it yet.
I wanted to try to get FO 3.0.5 working on Mandriva, so I got the newest version of wine (1.1.16).
The installation went well, but when I start the game up it crashes before the splash screen even appears.
I tried a normal Armada 2 install, this one worked fine.

Any ideas how I could get this to work?
Maybe an other emulator?

EDIT: This is the log:

I have the same problem too with my linux. Any FO release have never worked on linux with any release of wine. I have some really old release of cedega, but I haven't tried FO with it.

make sure that you define an exception for d3d8.dll in your wine configuration, so that he doesn't use the wine build-in dll. maybe that helps. it's been a while i used fleet operations with wine

Thank you for your reply.
Could you tell me where I could do that?

there is a graphical configuration utility within wine where you can set dll
you should be able to call it through the winecfg command. then you have a libraries tab there...

Thanks Doca I set the d3d8.dll to native then to builtin and now it works.
Thanks a lot!!!

Know I just have to familrise with Linux and then goodbye Windows.

I tried that. I put the exception for d3d8.dll. Now the game runs a little bit better (before nothing happenned), which is the crash reporting tool.

Made a little error when configuring wine  , now it works. Thanks

Maybe one of the other options works with your config.
The option builtin the native let the game work then crash.

yea, maybe you should make an extra container for fleet operations, as other direct3d8 games *may* get issues. but i guess you will notice that soon enough :).

that's also one part of the wine-todo we have, so that this option in the winecfg doesn't need to be set
