Freighters, or Romulan ones at least, can fire on enemy vessels with their mining beams.

I see what you mean now.  If you take a miner (I did a romulan one) and set it to high special weapons autonomy, it will use its mining beam on another vessel or station.  Nothing happens as a result, the beam just "attacks" a ship or station, but no damage or mining happens.

No wonder Mandrils always show up as my 'least effective combat ship' in the ADM log.

i think we should leave it as it is, star trek freighter ops sounds fun. freighter captains thinking they have weapons

on a serious note maybe the freighters could be adapated to steal enemy resources, if you can get a freighter to an enemy refinery, you could load up refined resources (ie load up several times the normal capacity - as normally you are carrying raw ores). imagine your enemy's horror when they had just added that last module to their first sphere and suddenly they lack the resources.  :borg: :crybaby:

that would be awesome!

I also like the mining beams that can actually mine resources off ships, and eventually kill them :woot:

mining from ships i dont think is sensible. how do you strip the armour off a ship? if it takes phasers lots of work to get through then a mining beam would need ages. or everyone would just use mining ships as combat ships.

if this is going to be fixed does that mean that the freighters will no longer always be my least effective combat ship??

Wait, wait, wait...you mean I send my freighters on suicide-runs to my enemy's base at the end of every game I lose, and I never even knew that they could actually attack when they got there?! Damn..... :crybaby:

The particle collector beam should be invertible so that you can push enemy ships away as a defense mechanism. Or perhaps blast dilithium at them... that would be awesome.

I think this is a seperate issue - probably that will be fixed when the Admiral's Log is reworked a good way's down the road.  ^-^

First of all, the error is the combat=1 code. I believe the devs must have copied and paste and forgot to make it a 0.  ^-^ Who knows the reason? Right?
