I'm really hoping someone can help me - I'd stopped playing Fleet Ops for a while (though I kept up with the latest updates), but when I tried to play it today it wouldn't run - I uninstalled and reinstalled, and it still won't load. I don't think I've made any changes to my PC setup in the interrim, so I really don't know what's going on here... any suggestions? :)

are you using windowblinds or a theme that didnt come with windows?
posted on November 26th, 2011, 7:14 pm
No, just the plain Windows XP theme...
posted on November 26th, 2011, 7:41 pm
could you try the following:

type the following into run:
net stop themes

then push enter and all themes should turn off.

then try run fleetops and see if you get the same crash.

did u send the bug report using the send report feature of the crash handler? they might not have noticed it posted here.

you can email them the report at bugs@fleetops.net, that's the way they usually deal with crashes.

I tried, but there was another error message: "Sorry, attempting to send the bug report didn't work."

then emailing the report (as a .txt file of what you posted) would probably be best.

this is a bug in an external library used by fleet operations. i reported the bug to the authors of this library already.
currently there is not much you can do about this issue. it seems to occur randomly on a rare number of systems.
the problem is that the function that crashes is per api documentation from microsoft not to be called from a initializing dll. but that is actually exactly what happens. i hope that a solution for this is found soon.

I know that there are some patched UxTheme.dll files for xp floating around,
maybe yours is patched? or you might try patching yours? or just download a patched one, to test if it helps?
posted on November 29th, 2011, 1:20 pm
yes, i have had the same idea, too. tested that with a user who was using patched uxtheme.dll, but replacing it with a unmodified one had no effect either.
this crash occurs on a small number of XP systems. vista and later is not affected by this issue.
this way or another, the next version of FO will have this fixed.
posted on November 29th, 2011, 3:43 pm
Quite true - I don't think my uxtheme.dll was patched, but I replaced it with an original one anyway and nothing changed.

Still, I'm relieved to know it's being addressed; I'll just wait for the next version to come around. :)
