Instructions for Play on Linux installation

Hi FO community!

I am new to this forum and tried to find a topic, where I can read step by step instructions on how to get Fleet Operations running under Play on Linux. I read some post, which said that FO would not run under Linux, but I guess that is not true for Play on Linux or WINE. In the WineHQ database someone reported FO to be "Gold" status on WINE 1.3.19. However, I myself cannot get it to even start, so I am searching for instructions on how to get it running.

Is there already such a topic? I could not find it using the search and did not want to go through 99 pages of topics. If there is no such topic, is there anyone here, who knows how to do this?

Note: I can run Armada 2 just fine on Play on Linux and have the original CD in my computer right now, so I should have all the necessary resources.

I haven't tried to install FO on Linux for a few versions, but it would not run under Wine any time I tried. As I understand it, DLL injection simply doesn't work in Wine or derivatives due to inherent Linux security.

I've now managed to get it to run under WINE, but only with using a no cd fix. Might be that the same way works with POL. Here is the topic, which describes how to do it on WINE:

The game runs fine under Linux this way, but I didn't try network gaming, only instant action.

offtopic:
I wish there was a campaign to play or at least Cardassians and Spezies 8472 ^^ Dominion is really neat already! So far I liked all civs I played. Haven't played Klingons yet.

You mentioned campaigns , are you using the Classic A2 mod?
The reason I ask is because I was thinking your trying to get FO on linux but campaign is regular A2.

I recently installed FO. What I mean is, that I only wish that there was a campaign in FO and that I wish there still were Species 8472 and Cardassians to choose from.
But I think it's offtopic in this thread : )
