Well, I'm not a heavy Nix user....I used it at school to code with, but I found better text editors for windows and just remotely compiled progs. But in an effort to learn more, I installed a few different distros until I found one that was a good mix of CLI and GUI....you guessed it...Ubuntu. Anyhoo....I'm currently going through the installation process just bored and wanted to know if anyone had any problems getting it to run? I'll update this in like 10 mins or so to let you guys know how it went.

Use Wine 1.17. Works with Aramada 2, havent tried it with FO, but I can't see why it shouldn't.

Well Armada2 and FO both installed w/o a hitch. Stock A2 ran perfectly. FleetOps seems to just try to open then shutdown with WINE. Anyone else play FO on nix?

Hm... search for any log, try to find out, if Wine or just FO crashes. Read the log, if one exists and watch out for fatal errors.

usually switching from the build-in d3d8.dll library to native mode is the way to go for fleet operations with wine

I tried to run the game on Ubuntu 9.04 with the latest version of Wine, but without success. The game won't even start. No crash, no error, nothing. I tried the d3d8.dll thing, the same. Is anyone else running the game on Linux ?

Fixed... sort of. I was missing a dll, now the game starts but I can't see the lower buttons, "back" and "start", so I can't start a game or save the settings. After I stop the game (from system monitor) the desktop resolutions remains at 800x600. Any ideas ?
