Are you installing version 3.0.6 first? (this was a problem that existed in 3.0PR I know  :sweatdrop:)

Have you tried installing in your "my documents folder". That sometimes helps. Also, are you installing with a previous A2 installation in place? (if you place them in the same folder, that causes all sorts of errors)

not enough space in the windows installation drive, installing it on my other hard drive.

is there a way to do this manually?

To do what manually exactly?  :sweatdrop: Sorry, I think I may have misunderstood :(

well to extract the files from the installer and maybe paste over the original armada folders?

Ah, as I said, you should not be installing in the same folder as armada II. You don't even need AII installed to install FO :). That will cause a whole host of problems...

EDIT: I mean problems will be caused by installing in the same folder.

Oh, shi-

I know what that means, and it sucks big time. You are trying to install the game, but the first thing the installer does is to extract all files in the C: drive. If it doesn't have enough disk space, you are screwed.

Try to move the pagination file to another drive or move (temporarily) a huge application away from the drive. Move it back when FO has installed.

ah crap, that makes sense.

ok i'll see what i can do

There are some games that start the installation process by doing a copy of the installer (of itself, in short), and then proceed to extract the files needed for the installation from there, making it to take up double (or more!) temporary space for installation. Apparently, FO is not one of those idiotic programs.

But it still needs space in C: to extract the files while it's installing. And the problems is that it extracts all of them before copying. Once installed, the temporary files are deleted, so you can get back to have your drive as you had it before.

Anyways, I think you need to have a hard look at what you have in the C: drive and start deleting things. Nowadays it takes a lot to fill a hard drive. Still, I manage to do that. :)

You're lucky.

Before doing a major re-do of my computer, I had the same problem, but worse.

My boot drive was a 8 gb. I had additional drives, of bigger sizes as slaves, but the main was tiny by today's standards, and I had my share of problems installing relatively modern software that relies arrogantly in the user having space to spare so it's OK to borrow a few gigbaytes for temporary storage.

I had to relocate software from the C drive to other units, and still that was a provisional measure until the next program I had to install. My pagination file (a.k.a. virtual memory) was in a 10 gb partition in a 70 gb drive. I kept cleaning the temp folder ( in c:documents and settingsUSERTemp ) on a daily basis or I could run out of space anytime. Towards the end, having 400 Megs of available disk space was a struggle.

And then the tricks played by some software, like Second life (did you know that if you wander around in SL, you can end with several gigabytes of objects, textures and scripts in a hidden folder in your boot drive?) or The Spore (that creates a one Gigabyte file for holding the galaxy you play in).

Even with plenty of available space, I keep checking, and get surprised by the amounts of space some programs steal under the user's nose.
