Hey all !

The title says it all; I've read most of the tutorials but so far I had no luck with modding a "stock" defiant - this is what I did (it's late so please bear with me if I did forget something !):

- open up ODF.fpq in FPQEdit
- located "fedW_defiant1o.odf"
- in it, I changed "fed_defiant.odf" 5.559 to 15.000 (massively unfair, I know)

Well, my expectation was that now a Defiant would deal almost three times the damage (to another Defiant) as before, but no so...

Obviously I am missing something, but what ?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

As far as i know the section within the editor is just a preview-area.
So i for myself configure the odfs with the windows build-in editor.

When saving the file with the win-editor the FO-editor asks for updating the file itself.

So you should not forget to save and update the modified odfs.

I know it sounds ridiculously easy - but it's easy to forget.

Did you check if the file was actually updated? When you exit out of ODF.fpq, it asks you to update changes :)

You can either extract files and do editing in the file directly, or within the ODF.fpq - both work, but some prefer one way or the other :)

It should also be noted that the defiant has passives acting on it.  These passives are expressed in individual lines after the "damageBase" value.  Search for a line that has "fed_defiant.odf" in it.  Change it's value by the same quantity that you changed the damageBase value by (2.698x damage).

Hey chris welcome to the forums and to the modding side of things.

as far as i understand you, your mod to the odf should work, but as dominus said, try again and see if it asks you to update changes, also 10 damage is not that much, be a little more aggressive in cganginf th values untill you know its working right, then you can go back and re adjust you numbers.

happy modding from a fellow modder.

It is also possible the file is read only.

It warns you if it's read-only when you try to save the changes.

Thanks all for the suggestions !

There is still something in the way, and I _always_ confirmed that the archive actually was updated.

Whats the simplest possible mod to FPQ.odf to see an in-game change ?
Also, if it matters: I am using FO v3.2.3.

Simplest way to see a change is to close the FPQ.odf, open it again and check if the changes are held :) 3.2.3 has some issues with the FPQ system for some people - it is always best to use the most up-to-date version  ^-^

If none of this works, simply select the file you wish to edit, extract it, edit it, and add it back to the archive :)

Wohooo !!

Updating to 3.2.6 did the trick.

Thanks all.
