I have no clue why, but I feel compelled to give backstory.
I just recently signed up here after searching far and wide for Star Trek Armada, either 1 or 2. I was doing so because i remembered Star Trek Armada, the first game, from when I was 6 years old. I remember it being the only game I ever played for two years because the interface was simple enough for me to use and learn, and may have veritably sparked my interest in strategy games in my current years. After getting a bit tired of playing the same levels over and over again, and clicked multiplayer. It was something I was reluctant to do, being only about 8 at this time and assuming that the only people playing would be adults. However, i found solace with the Instant Action option that let me face of against up to 7 other computer opponents.
However, shortly after I discovered this feature, my poor handling of the game combined with a tumultuous move rendered the game scratched and unusable. I was young and after a brief period of having a "I have nothing to do" tantrum, I got over it. Nowadays, after playing many other games I believed to fit the genre such as "Starcraft" and "Command & Conquer", I have just never gotten the satisfaction I received from playing Star Trek Armada as a kid. Now, after weeks of searching, I find this and am overjoyed (and slightly dismayed that Armada II wasn't that great) that I may get an opportunity to play a game from one of my all-time favorite series.
However, I am having an issue. I lack a disc copy of Armada II. I've searched local stores and found no games of the type, not new (if only) or used. Turning to online stores has left awestruck on seeing price tags of usually over $200 for a single copy that I'm pretty sure is not new. It appears the game has a supply that can not meet the demand that I imagine may have been spurred at one point by this mod. So, lacking any sort of file, I figured I would turn to the forum here since it's likely that you may be the most knowledgeable people on the subject.
I'm hesitant to turn to a taking a free download, somewhat sure that, despite the fact the game isn't being produced anymore along with the outrageous pricetags for existing copies, it is illegal and unsafe to simply take any download link on a simple search. So, would anyone be able to help me find a financially feasible way of acquiring a copy of Star Trek Armada II so that I may once again relive the RTS joy of my childhood. If not, I'll probably become desperate enough to take a download. Again, I'm not sure why I felt a compulsion to give a backstory, but this forum may be my last hope for finding direct or relevant information on this game. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm afraid the only legal way is to buy it yourself. Anyone that has an ISO file or backup disc created from the disc cannot give it to you (like shipping it) because you don't own an original copy of the CD. All those ways since you don't own the disc are illegal. You really need to own your own copy no matter what. I bought myself an extra backup disc with Armada I as well on eBay, that truly is your only option.

Alright, I'll take from a fund I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to if it becomes too difficult to find a reasonably priced copy. Thanks for the input and fast response. I appreciate it.

Welcome to the forums.
Well, the US version usually sells for around 50-80 USD, if you just want to obtain a legal copy of an A2 disc i would go for the german one, which sells for around 10-20 EUR (less than 20 USD, on ebay.de, plus shipping)
Of course one could tell you how to circumvent the copy check from FOPS itself, which is not allowed to do so publicly (for obvious reasons). Maybe someone writes you a PM, and of course you're still welcome to join the Teamspeak 3 Server, where i've heard people just randomly discuss stuff...
Edit & P.S.: you could even get a legal (german) copy of the game on amazon.de, most sellers want around 15€ for the disc, plus around 15€ for shipping world wide, might be cheaper on eBay though, registered mail costs around 5-6€ shipping (to the US).

if you truly want to avoid doing illegal things then buying the german a2 is your best bet.
to expand on what beserene said, if you buy the german a2, fleetops will still install in english. fleetops only comes in english atm.
pirating a2 isn't unsafe, it's just illegal. you have to make that moral decision for yourself whether or not you're willing to pirate a2.
