Pods combined with replaceweapons

I was thinking how could replaceweapons be more effective and how could I make the AI to use them. AI doesn't use replaceweapons, but the engine supports them. AI builds pods. Conclusion: If I could make a pod to be a replaceweapon which automatically replaces ome or more ODFs, it could work magnificenlty.
For example, I make a pod which upgrades the Akira Class to have two more torpedo launchers. So I make a pod named "Akira Weapon Upgrade" and as it is a replaceweapon, when it's done, it replaces all Akiras to upgraded Akiras.
This would be the basics of the theory, but it could be used as well to turn your Federation to the Terran Empire by cahnging all ships and stations from Federation to Terran with a single research. ANd I have several more ideas, how I could use it :)

The question is: Is this possible?

yes it is possible and a very similar idea exists too, haven't thought about it a while now though. it may even be possible in the current dev build already through a new (modding) feature. edit: nah, thinking more about it it may not be entirely perfect. anyway, maybe i'll have look at that when i have some time left
partially the ai uses the replaceweapon already but more auto triggered than really ai controlled.

Now I only would like to ask somebody to help me out with a sample code. After experimenting for a while I only managed to cause CTDs but not replacements. Please?  :whistling:

Yeah, there is a line called replacementinstantAI that, if set to 1 will allow the AI to instantly use a replaceweapon.  if the AI were to build a pod, which was what the replaceweapon required to work, as soon as it was researched, the AI would ise the weapon.  you could put the weapon on all akiras or whatever, and they would all refit themselves(maybe with a delay) as soon as the pod was finished.

in theory its semi possible atm the only issue as far as i know instantreplace is not affected by tech so if a ship had a weapon with instant replace but in the techtree it had a tech requirement then the techtree would be ignored and just used as soon as the ship was built. could be wrong tho as i aint tried it in the lastest patch

well, you could give it a realistic delay I guess.  I would just make them refit through rankup myself. :whistling:

tbh i'd have the terrans as a seperate avatar lol but this theory would work great for eras (allow the shipyard switch butild que thing to work automatically

This is exactly my goal with it  :shifty: With this method I 1) could spare a lot of coding and make the game easier by automatically making all the stations fit to the next era and 2) could make AI to upgrade its ships.
And I'm not opening a new tread for my CTD problem, because after Doca said it's possible, I'm sure that I'm the idiot and I wrote wrong code  :sweatdrop:
