Should special energy fully recharge and any cycling countdown reset when a ship is being repaired at a shipyard? I noticed this when I was repairing a Descent class ship.

It should... because you are basically gaining energy poured into your system. Plus the fact that usually when repairing they also replenish the dilithium and anti-matter supply. ![Wink ;)](/forum/images/smilies/wink.png)

Energy is replenished for the shields, so why not for the specials too. I'd really appreciate that as it raises your power when defending your base.

I think I'm of mixed opinions here: on the one hand it is annoying that repairing a vessel does not increase its special energy reserves, but on the other it might be quite imbalanced to alllow that to occur. For instance, think about a Hyperspace Artillery, a Dreadnought, a Descent or even your lowly Norways getting their abilities back almost immediately if they stay in the base during a base assault - quite a bad situation (the Hyper/Norway/Remore/[insert support vessel] would be able to fire over and over, the Dread would be able to use its polarize hull again and again, and the Descent would be able to almost continuosly recharge the shields of your base structures).

25% energy recharge at the yard, then modestly increased recharge rate for 10-15 seconds after leaving the yard?

Sounds fair. Though I think that special energy recharge rates should be boosted while near your structures (or maybe a certain one) without necessarily having to be 'repaired' because this to me would give a sense of home-field advantage when defending....
Thoughts?

Yeah, the whole "home territory/defensive boost" idea has been suggested in the past - but I think the devs said they wanted that for another faction. Certainly would be interesting if one faction could build some AoE structures which regenerated special energy recharge rates though... maybe even Romie defense turrets could do this.
I'm still not sure one way or the other about giving a home bonus - it sounds like a cool idea though, but it would need to be carefully balanced in accordance with turrets as well, otherwise turtling and crawling might become too viable (aka, build a shipyard near your enemy's expansion, and voila, vessels that are many times more effective due to special energy recharge rates being constantly boosted).

haha... if someone manages to build a shipyard that close to your base I think you have more problems than just special energy recharge rates.

Nah, it's a viable strategy - just gotta build it out of the way
. The problem is with a "home defense" ability, that strategy would become a lot more powerful. At the moment, all you can do is repair vessels quicker ... but with a boost to special energy, it becomes another mini-base.

i think we will keep it the way it is now, but i could think of different methods of energy regeneration in the future
