Targeting Priority

Hellooooo :D

I'd like to request (if it has not already been changed) that the targeting priority value for miners be raised above that of the mining station.  Making attack runs on mining expansions can be very frustrating when your ships decide to fruitlessly toss shots at the station instead of at the juicy mining vessels.

This is especially problematic for Klingon and Romulan ships that can benefit greatly from decloaking on the fly and attacking in a single run without stopping.  B'rels, Rhienn's, and other fragile ships can really be set back when they have to STOP and shoot while reinforcements are routed to their location.  Kind of hampers the concept of being a quick strike vessel.

  Thoughts?

There is a line of code in the odfs that is used for exactally that.  the Devs have used it in the past to make ships ignore turrets over ships, but will destroy turrets before other stations.

My guess is that if the code is already in the station odf, it just needs to be revised to make sure the mining ships have a higher priority than the stations.

 I find that the most logical way is to in fact make freighters a higher priority of targeting. They say it is based off of hit points, I also beleive that this would in fact count. Though you can annoy the person by forcing him to have freighters floating around waiting for a station to apply their resources, it would be like wise more productive if freighters were targete first because then you'd be annoying the crap out of your opponent because he is spending his entire budget on freighters. [/Vulcan]

Right...

Anyway basically I'm for it. Rather destroy the freighters altogether than the station, and just have the freighters go to a different station...

I'm not so sure I want this changed - it tends to be a life saver if people aren't paying attention to what ships they are firing at in the first place. Otherwise, you could just send that warp in, or that lone BoP on a fire and forget mission and it will destroy the targets sequentially, in the easiest fashion. As it is now, you actually have to tell them what to target - which is what I really like  :sweatdrop:

I have to agree with dominus on this. If you're klingon its not like you kitt the minners so I realy dont see the point. Very nice idea though.

Erm .. but this is really the only example I can find of where something un-useful is targeted over something much more juicy.  I dunno, I just find that it causes short range ships that really need to keep moving to become vulnerable.

Maybe it's a good thing ...  Dev?  Any light?

  Yaaaay!

Now my stupid B'rels and Rhienns won't waste their firepower and surprise on scratching the paint on a mining station.

What, you don't like the Kaleh manuver being used up on a mining station?  Whyever not?  :whistling:

Indeed, that's damn true - I take what I said two posts above back  :sweatdrop:

I know, right!  I mean, using the cursor to click the miner as your method of decloaking when you do the Kaleh maneuver and firing is way too hard!  I agree with Dom, I like it the way it is, but if it's going to change then I guess I'll adapt.  :borg:.

Of course Dom, has to go and change his mind before I post. >:(

Well, the one darn problem of clicking the miner as your way of decloaking is that you get a much longer wait before attacking then, rather than actually clicking decloak (which enables them to attack right away).

If that was fixed, then I'd definitely want priority to stay the same as it is now.

Hmm...that is a problem. :(

Boggz has a solid argument, and it's valid.  I'm more arguing from preference, I think.  The harasser is in a much better position than the guy being harassed already, and with interceptor units becoming super fast, that position increases.  I think I'm more worried about the danger from long ranged vessels being able to target them while on the move.  But hey, if they're going to make harassment even easier for some of us, then it's not so bad.
