Funnystuff has already reported this bug before (and was told it didn't exist... roughly speaking), but now I am absolutely certain it does exist as many people witnessed it:

Basically we (Mimesot, Dna42, Zebh, Mort) were playing a FFA (factions were Borg, Borg, Romulan, Dominion and me as Klingon) and all of a sudden both Mort and Mimesot's bases were completely revealed, both fog AND shroud, for a second or two before fog came back down (the black shroud disapeared from the revealed areas). Everybody but Mort noticed this reveal (maybe not Zebh, I forget).

I have no idea how to replicate it sadly :(

EDIT: Mort said that he noticed we mentioned the bug pretty much after he used the Dominion's long range reveal ability to reveal Mimesot's base. This could explain why we saw both member's bases perhaps...

I can confirm this bug as it also happened to me playing Instant Action twice. In both cases, one or more players were Romulan.

I think it might be related to ship capturing, but I'm not sure if it was someone capturing a Romulan ship/station or Romulans capturing an enemy ship/station.

The result was a brief lifting of both fog and shroud, and having all stations from all players marked on the map.

EDIT: I read DN's edit, and I think that at least in one of the two occasions, no Dominion player was present, just five Roms and three Feds.

The Romulans have an ability to unveal everything belonging to the enemy for about 2 seconds, maybe the problem comes from that?

I do seem to recall that the Shrike provides "access to enemy sensors", but I'm not sure if it refers to the whole sensor network or just to the targeted unit/station.

I also think that in stock A2 some captures provided the scouted area by the enemy.

I think it's just the targets Sensors if it's a ship, everything if it's a station.

No shrikes were built in this game, and I can't recall if an IC was built... I will find out when Zebh comes back online :)

Hehe Yes I remember I was just about to say... For some reason it happens when there is a rommulan in the game. We too had 4 players on a large map. I was dominion and was minning most of the map. and all of the sudden for the 2 fed players, all my base locations were revealed.  :crybaby:

Hmmm....... I got a question... is there something that can emmit an effect area passive weapon that can prevent revealing of parts of the base unless a ship was sent there in person? You know, like if the Rom reveal weapon was some type of radar or sensor that basically it sends a jamming wave? This was featured in some other really old game to where you couldn't detect anything in the field unless you litterally sent a vessel in there. Can that be done? I'd like that... though it would probably take a special station slot.

Are you referring to the shroud generator from Red Alert? For those of you who don't know, it regenerated shroud in a circle around it for enemy players. It was evil because scouting that area did no good because the generator just covered up everything that you found.

you know whats funny, is I found that game in a folder of mine just the other day.  I should go and check it out.

That is exactly what I would purpose.  It would really make scouts useless, but it would be a cool feature still.

Actually, it might be it's own worse enemy... If your sensor data for a place keeps dissapearing, you're going to get suspicious.

It could always prevent things in it's radius from showing up on the minimap in the first place.  That might work better than removing things from the minimap (though if you build it after your enemy has already discovered your base, it's gonna look suspicious when the base suddenly vanishes.

It should definitally have an effect redius.  The question is weather it should slowly erase the things the scout descovers, or if it should do that, and limit the range of the of the scouts sensors.  I think it would be cool if it did both, but either one would work.
