v3.0.6 Borg Lag

Since I've started playing v3.0.6 I've noticed that if there are even a handful of Borg ships, particularly Spheres for some odd reason, the game starts to visually lag.

I usually have no problems running the game at 1920x1200, 8x AA, full details. My comp is more than adequate - 8800GTX + overclocked Core2Quad. Hell, it even plays smooth on an 8600GT...

Anyone else experiencing this?

not sure about just normal playing but when ever I play with any AA I get lag with ship explosions and I have a i7 8800gt with 6gb of ram I should be able to play like 4 copys of this game at once but I get mega lag, related?

Borg explosions tend to render slowly (it does look more epic...), but everything else around them seems to happen at normal speed.

My problem seems to only occur when a Borg ship or two is engaging a fleet. In my base / wherever there isn't a fight things are perfectly normal.

the borg explotions are to to with the way the armarda engine renders ship breakups, the borg ships are made of so many diff parts it lags.

i get huge lag and i have a 9800 GTX 1GB with 8Gb DDR3 Ram and a Q6700 3.2Ghz quad core...

its the engine not the PC

Also, as I mentioned in the main 3.0.6 thread, I get lag everytime a new Borg ship type shows up for the first time, i.e. model and textures are loaded.

The game slows down for several seconds in that case and even a single new ship is enough to cause that (miner, scout cube, whatever).

Don't all the models / textures get preloaded? I half remember there is some flag in RTS_CFG.h for that...

Anyway, I'm pulling the data from a 10K RPM harddrive via SATA II onto 1066 Mhz RAM w/ basically no background processes - this REALLY shouldn't be happening. If I can play Crysis on high a (highly updated, granted) ~5 year old (?) game engine shouldn't cause problems, EVER.

Load Storm 3D, open a borg cube sod, and you will see the problem. (note there will be no textures)

Anyone know if the Borg models were updated from 3.0.5a? As per the title I've only noticed the problem on 3.0.6.

Nah, they have been like this for a long time. :borg:
