[Very Technical Question] - Resource Structures

I know that this question has a very technical nature to it, but how does Fleet Ops store resource data among stuff like mining freighters, resource objects (especially non-infinite resources), and cargo ships?  And hypothetically speaking, what would it take to add a single functional resource to the game?  And could it be done as a plugin for a single mod or set of mods without it affecting stock Fleet Ops (other than certain files loosing backwards compatibility with stock Fleet Ops)?

While I am by no means an authority on A2 code, I remember the Devs mentioning that it was hard to patch a new resource into the game & thus will not be done as long as the sourcecode isn't available (which, as far as I know, we'll never get to see).  :(

I believe that since the number of resources the engine recognizes is fixed, the only way would be to re-purpose one of the existing resources. However, I believe that FO has already re-purposed all of the original A2 resources so I don't think you can "add" a resources without losing an FO one, unless there's something about the mod system which would allow a resource to be "shared", but I doubt it.

The only way to add more resources to the engine would be to write another hook into the engine, or rather you would probablly have to hook the FO hooks, which would get messy.  :pinch:

aye :) I fear at the moment its not possible to add a new resource to Armada and its not on todo to change that, as its burried quite deep in A2

Officers is not used in FO, so there is still that :) . It's not a very flexible resource though. With creative thinking, fleetcaps can also be used as a resource - that will become much easier in the next patch as well.

I thought the officers got shanghai'd into collective connections?

Resources are as follows then...

Armada 2 --> Fleetops
Latinum ----> Tritanium
Metal -------> Collective Connections
BioMatter ---> Supply
Officers -----> (Not Assigned)

Dilithium and Crew are the same in both.

Now, does this mean that the officers will be used as the Scientist resource for the Cidian? From the Guide..
Scientists are planned as a special resource for the Ciadan faction, because they assign them to their research projects.
