I was playing as fed. recently and had an idea for creating the refitted galaxy class like the one on the last episode of TNG. You could start of with just a regular warp-in galaxy, but thered be a button kind of like the ones for romulan upgrades. The ship would trade in photons for quantums or something and get some special ability or other, yet lose the ability of saucer separation (if it ever gets included) Obviously the ship couldn't be too powerful because of balancing reasons, so the galaxy class would probably be rarer, and it would cost some resources and maybe +3 or so warp-in slots, and the ship would go to a yard to be upgraded. These are just some ideas i had if anyone is interested in them

If that ship was ever added, I'd prefer it was a seperate varient like the Nebula rather than a standard refit. The physical changes are too extensive for an on the spot mod.

Are you talking about the Valiant subtype, or the Galaxy-X? The former, as I just read in another topic, is slated for entry into the Flops scene, most likely as a veteran version of the Galaxy. As for the latter . . . I'm not sure.
I wish I could help, but that's about all I know. Your ideas are cool, though.

He mentioned the last TNG episode, so I'd assume he meant the Galaxy-X. The Venture-type was a DS9 exclusive and is already in game; you get it at rank 4, though it's not entirely accurate as the nacelle phasers look more like the Galaxy-X ones than the canon ones.

Oh, I knew I had the name wrong. I was thinking of the Defiant-varient. And I never noticed that the Galaxy changed; I'm gonna have to have a look at that.

I thought that at first too, but since the galaxy is already one of the more 'powerful', ones you can warp in itd make the feds a bit overpowered, since its a refit and persumably stronger. Although you could have it as a really low chance of appearing or have it as another button on the list, etc. Since the galaxy is no longer in production, I don't think it would be plausable to 'build' refitted versions. I agree that it would be a pretty extensive mod though, it was just a preliminary idea

Ive always wanted the Galaxy X as a map unit - since theres no proof it ever existed beyond the imagination of Q.

Also doesn't prove it doesn't exist in one of the infinate realities. Whatever others design a ship like it, it would likely be weaker and not cloak-capable.

Im not here to debate the validity of the Gal-X's existence with you Tyler. I happen to love the Gal-X. Im also aware of the Devs position on it. So I only ask for its inclusion as a map object rather than in the Fed tech tree.

I'm just pointing out the flaw with the not seen is not existing logic, namely that it doesn't work.

Thats a valid point. but youll be hard pressed to convince others the truth in that. The potential to make a Galaxy class into that refit is there, the question becomes: without Rikers desire to keep her outta mothball would any other admiral do the same for other Galaxy classes? If anything its a 1 off like the Lakota.

Who is to say RIker was the only reason the Enterprise got that refit? For all we know the X refit was done 10 years prior, (you have to remember at that point the Enterprise was 25 years old) meaning they could have decided to retire her years AFTER she was refit, Riker just decided to take her over then. And I totaqlly agree with you Tyler, just cause it was an alternate timeline by Q doesnt mean I couldnt happen to other Galaxy class ships, given the time they spent on R&D for them it would make sense that they would want to extend their capabilities to keep them modern as long as possible.
If it were possible I would suggest you could maybe get the X refit ONLY at veteran rank and would have to purchase it (like Tavara upgrades) or maybe send it to a large yard for the upgrade (at some cost). Make it fairly tough but it would eat up more vet slots to keep it limited as to how many you could make.

I can agree with almost everything that's been said here so far.
I absolutely loved the 3-nacelled galacy, more because of the awesome torp launcher mounted on the saucer than the nacelles themselves. Also it may have something to do with that ship having the only badass combat sequence in the entire TNG series
I also agree that it's only borderline canon, and I like the current galaxy and venture refit. If the 3-nacelle Galaxy ever does get a place in the fed lineup, it should be limited to 1 and have a supply cost associated with it. A rare warpin seems like an okay idea, but it wouldn't be easy to balance.
Maybe someday down the road we can have an "experimental warpin" that takes 4 slots and gives you one ship, but that ship is randomly selected from a pool including the descent and Galaxy X. (The Teutoburg would still have its separate call because it fills a different role)

A realistic refit option is fairly easy to implement if you combine the Tompney's dispatch option with the Newton's upgrade system.
I've got my mod set up so that certain ships can be refit at veteran level by returning to the Eraudi shipyard. You have to bring the ship within range of the yard (like needing to be near a mining station to dispatch the Klingon mining containers), but the refit button triggers an upgrade process like the Newton's - there's a build cost and time. I feel that if you have to be near the shpyard, have to pay for it, and have to wait for it, you can justify just about any level of modification to the ship. On the extreme side, I've got my Miranda refitting to a Saratoga
I have my veteran Galaxy set up to refit to the Galaxy EVO, but it was a tough toss up between that and the Galaxy X.

Please post the mod and PM me when you do!
But yeah, personally I think the Gal-X would be a really neat VERY rare warpin, or you can refit a Galaxy class veteran to Gal-X specs, but have it cost extra warpin/vet slots (so you cant refit if the extra slots are not free). THen have the Gal-X stay as a Veteran (which it previously was before the refit) and not rank up further. Give it the current Veteran Galaxy class specs, slight speed boost, slight shield power/regen boost, add the 'heavy' torpedo launcher on the top of the saucer, and the main gun.
Have it be nearly as strong as a Tavara, but with weaker def stats, prehaps give it a regular cloak if you allready meet the mixed tech requirements for klink or rom..
