Return of the Transwarp Gate

Hello and salutes. Awesome mod for STAII. :thumbsup:

I also agree with the return of the transwarp conduit, but in a more traditional STAII form. And instead of a radically high build cost and a weak structure, I'd like to see the portal itself destroyable. That way, you can't just toss up a portal in the middle of the enemy's operation, but you can flank or attack from behind. There are plenty of occurrences in ST where they just blew up a hole in space. The 'health' of the portal can be used for balance in-game and could be manually targeted with a special click.

FO might additionally consider the use of auto pings that signaled the use of super weapons.

Another idea is to simply create the transwarp network, but cap the number of connections you can build and you could only travel between gateways which mean you would need two if you had multiple staging grounds. I would also try to simply add it to a structure like the transmission matrix which sits almost useless after you 'research' your stuff.

I really like the idea of a destroyable portal - that would discourage placing the portal near starbases, yet it would still work to attack undefended mining sectors.

Reading all this I noticed that you don't look out for another use of the Transwarp Gate at all.

How about this:

The Transwarp Gate is a structure, that works similar to the Fleet Command of the Federation.

So the Borg can build it to get some Trans-Warp-In support. Since the Gate is located in the Borg's base the support will only be able to appear there.

To keep the game balance alive there must be "destroyable" vessels coming from the gate.


If the Gate is used to open a path to another place of the map vessels near the opening will fire on it. Causing heavy damage to the vessels coming out of the Transwarpcanal. (We all have seen what that volley of photon torpedos has done to the Diamond ind Star Trek Voyager.)
