One thing to note is that the extra miner pays for itself with one or so loads... which means that in only a handful of seconds, you are making more than a two miner set up  . If you place the mining station to the side of a moon pair, very very occasionally you can get away with just two freighters, if the direction of freighter movement is conducive (they rotate depending on how you placed the moon).
